Walk in, climb with precision and walk out in comfort – in different weather conditions and all in one shoe. The Wildfire Edge Mid GORE-TEX is a unique technical solution for alpinists, climbers and scramblers who want an approach shoe with enhanced climbing performance. It’s based on the smart and simple Salewa Switchfit system that allows you to quickly adapt the fit from hiking to climbing, by offering compression at the toes similar to a climbing shoe. Simply tighten the laces to pull your foot forward into the toebox. Once you’ve finished climbing, return the laces to the original position, for a wider toebox and more hiking comfort. To further enhance climbing precision, the Wildfire Edge’s insole also incorporates an Edging Plate below the side of the foot and big toe – for additional, directional stiffness – while the rest of the insole remains flexible and responsive to ensure good comfort and a natural rolling motion. The 11 mm drop is also ideal for fast mountain approaches or superior grip when traversing. The lightweight, flexible mid-cut upper is made of high-quality 1.6 mm suede leather, while the Exa Shell provides enhanced torsional stability and works together with the 3F System to wrap the foot for better flexibility, fit and support. Inside, the GORE-TEX Extended Comfort lining is durably waterproof and breathable, so that precipitation and groundwater are kept out, but perspiration can easily escape from your feet. For greater protection against snow, scree and trail debris, there is a stretch gaiter. You can also customize the inside volume, thanks to the MFF+ footbed. Underfoot, the Wildfire Edge Mid GORE-TEX is equipped with the Pomoca Speed MTN Pro sole which uses Pomoca butyl compound rubber for better grip and friction on rock in both dry and wet conditions. The sole has a precision climbing zone at the toe, good edging performance and well-spaced tread blocks for improved traction on soft ground, such as mud and grass.

I Really, Realliy Like These, but......
...You should know they are Really, Really hard to put on and take off. And that's a good thing in that they fit like a glove, conform to your feet, and that is what gives the support without weight, they are very comfortable in doing that. So, to achieve what I was after (closed to keep scree and debris out on steep climbs) they must fit close and snug. They also have sharp sole tread for grip. Perfect for my needs. Their streamline surface will not hangup in vines and grass. As others have mentioned, they run small. I went up a half size and that came in just right with light weight socks. Hopefully the comfort level won't require thicker socks.Update: Back to five stars. After two extended hike-climbs, I'm in love with these. They now accept medium weight socks (warmer). The tread grips better than anything I have had over the years. Do I recommend them? Yes, for special use, not for everyday use (due to the ordeal getting them on. Off is not bad). They are more like ballet toe slippers, worth the prep for the performance. Not sure what the vibrant green eye(lets) are about. Intended to attract or repel rattlesnakes? Might paint them black.

Not just for climbing
They definitely run about 1 size small. So I normally wear 11 and a 12 fit perfectly. I bought these to wear at work and I honestly love them as far as comfort, traction and style. However, that nylon ankle ring at the top is exactly what it looks like...These boots are not easy to put on so be prepared. Alternatively, they won't come off easily, which is important in my line of work. They also aren't particularly warm, so if it's about 40 F you'll likely feel it if you aren't constantly moving. They are a niche footwear and they are awesome if this is the type of shoe you need. Not just for climbing. If you care about solid support and a lightweight, durable shoe with amazing traction and a badass look...this is it.

Love/hate "sock" collar
I'm a big fan of the long-running Merrell Chameleon stetch shoes, the combo of hiking tread and ninja sock-like fit is awesome. The upper on these Salewa's promised to take this a step further by combining S's great fit technology with a completely dirt-blocking collar, but frustratingly they suck to get on and off. Just really miserable considering that the Merrell's are almost slip-ons. Something like a velcro'd gusset is desperately needed. Unfortunately I was so excited by the tread behavior that I wore them and can't return them now. I also wish they were all-synthetic like my older Firetails- these would make great jungle boots if only they were rot-proof. Really sad about that part.

Perfect fit and comfort!
On my feet most of the day on hard surfaces. Getting older now and my feet need support. The arch support is perfect, for me, and the ankle support is just enough. LOVE this boot, size is true and though most times I need to order wide, didn't need to with this boot.

Thank you!
I absolutely love these boots! Unbelievable comfort, incredibly stylish, and tough as nails. To top it off, I got these in 2 days of ordering them. I was very surprised and happy. I wish I could get the other available color to have both. Will definitely continue my relationship with Outland, USA.

Waterproof
Love these boots. At first I thought they were a little pricey, but these things were worth every penny. They are warm and they are actually waterproof. I run a lot and I wanted a boot that I could run in the snow and slush without getting my feet wet. Well....i found them lol. Definitely will buy again.

O T T I M E !!!
