Rancid juice...bad quality control!
This is the 1st Weleda product I have purchased, and will be my last one...I bought a bottle of this Weleda organic sea buckthorn juice from UK last week for its outstanding benefits (so I heard). Yesterday I received the product and eagerly opened to try it.To be honest, I had never tried any food or drink made from sea buckthorn berries before, so I had no clue how it suppose to smell and taste like.When I opened the bottle, first thing I noticed was this strong rancid smell. The smell was so strong that it was like this bottle of juice had gone bad for at least one year already...and the expiration date on the bottle showed 07-2014...Besides the smell, the color of the juice was milky and brown orange. Although it smelled terrible, I still followed the instruction on the bottle, diluted small amount of juice in a cup of water and gave it a try. Even when diluted, the juice still had extremely sharp sour taste.According to this article, [...], it seems like this happens when the berries Weleda used to extract juice are overripe.Later, I contacted both the seller and Weleda about this issue. To me, it makes more sense that Weleda should be the one who's responsible for it. If the product goes rotten 1 year before the expiration date indicates, then clearly Weleda has quality control issue to solve. The seller would have no idea that the product quality has problem since the expiration date on the bottle is 1 year later. I received full refund from the seller after I contacted the seller. As of the response from Weleda, they claimed that it might be because the seller did not store the product in the correct way. They willing to offer a free bottle, but only willing to mail to US address, and only willing to provide me a bottle that expires IN 1 MONTH o_O !I am not sure if the bottle of the juice I receive is truly safe to drink. All I know is that this would be the only product I would ever buy from Weleda.
