Reinforced Steel Pick Axe Mattock with Shock Absorbing Fibreglass Handle - 900mm length

Sturdily made...well balanced, makes light work of opening up heavy clay and rocky soil. This mattock has a fibreglass handle which serves to dampen and absorb impact shock well.It's not a lightweight by any means, but it's precisely the 5 lb business end that makes difficult work easy! Very happy that I bought this item!

Good construction with a nice balance. I was able to use a high level of consistent swings to penetrate hard ground, especially after lack of rainfall.Handgrip is comfortable and quality of finish is excellent.

Excellent piece of kit.Comes unassembled but is really easy to put together with half an ounce of common sense.Major plus point is this tool is made in the UK and consequently feels like it will last forever, unlike pretend and completely rubbish stuff that's made in China.

I have been using this now for several months to clear overgrown land. I viewed the handle with some trepidation but have found it excellent. The mattock end cuts through the thick root matting well and the pickaxe has done a good job when we have stones piled up beneath the thin soil layer which prevent use of a spade or fork.Both my wife and I have found it easy to wield, with the weight so much in the head you need to be careful on the backswing, but very happy with the purchase

Product excellent, bought because the shaft springs slightly and takes the shock rather than it being transmitted to hands.

The points are very sharp, I have had one in the past from B&Q, albeit at half the price nearly but a lot more poorly made. The fibreglass absorbs a lot of the shock when in use and the handle is very grippy. Very easy to use.

A very well put together instrument. Cannot get much better than this.

The pick axe I received initially looked great and the handle is super comfy to hold and a good length to get a good swing which was fabulous as I started the job of getting some stubborn concrete smashed off an old washing line post, unfortunately after only 10 minutes the axe literally broke into two pieces ( the side that snapped wasn’t even the side I was using). The listing states re-enforced steel but you can clearly see in the photos this head is cast and obviously susceptible to stress fractures during the casting process. To say I am dissatisfied is an understatement as this is an expensive axe from a good brand and when I asked to return it I’m getting charged £3.75 postage which Amazon are taking from my refund once it’s issued.This is only my experience and maybe a one-off but be wary if purchasing this product as I found it totally not upto the job it’s designed to do.
