Lobsterman (Down East Quality Reprint)

We have read it to him perhaps 20 times. It is a simple story of a boy's apprenticeship to his father, his hard work and the choice he makes to pursue something he loves. Spoiler Alert: He eats the large lobster he catches. Though we have also read "The Cat at Night" for years starting with the older kids, it was this book that prompted me to buy a shopworn copy of "The Art of Dahlov Ipcar" in the Portland airport. Great story and great artwork in the book. Have read this many times, as a kid, when my grandparents knew the author and family and I had the original issue book, and in the years since. I bought this to give to my grands. DownEast Books used to be a good imprint. But, I'm disappointed that they have 'degraded' the copyright to this 'National Book Network' group and that they, in turn, are having this printed in CHINA. If that does not bother you, get the book. This is how we lobstered in the 1950s and 1960s along the coast of Maine. The book fabrication art rendering are, otherwise, good.

Spent some time in Maine @ a friend's summer home! Brought this little book for their coffee table & for others to enjoy! Seemed like a sweet little something! It arrived quickly and in excellent condition! I'm very pleased with my purchase.

The illustrations of Dahlov Ipcar are of extraordinary quality. They alone warrant purchase of the book. My three year old grandson is delighted with the book.

I have purchased at least 5 copies of this book since I bought it for my son many years ago. My 3 grandsons all loved it. The equipment..wooden traps is no longer in general use, but the kids don't notice.

This book is engaging on all levels. It is lovely and both of my daughters ask for it. It is a bed time favorite.

A boy and his dad in a Maine village, lobstering. Ipcar, who wrote One Horse Farm, tells a gentle tale of days gone by in a way that holds the calm attention of a child. So glad we got it!
