Premium Ultrabook - No Regrets
This is my first MacBook I've owned and it's just so good, plain and simple. I won't turn it into an anti-window rant because honestly I was more after a change from boredom and wanting to dive into an Apple ecosystem rather than forced over to Mac OS but I have fallen in love with the Mac.I opted for the 4 port variant which in my opinion is the only 2020 MacBook Pro worth going for, the 2 port variant uses 8th gen intel chips instead of 10th get, as well as slower RAM - so for that you may as well buy a 2019 MacBook for £300 less. I never used last gens keyboard so can't comment but I will say I genuinely enjoy using this 2020 'Magic Keyboard' - keys are snappy and has great travel whilst feeling nice to the touch too. Apples trackpads are legendary for good reason too but to be honest I'm not sold on the Touch Bar, its taking time to get used to and id rather have physical keys I can use from memory rather than look down. That being said as time goes on it gets better and it's not a deal breaker. The screen is gorgeous, the all metal body is solid throughout and the classic silver looks awesome. The speakers have no right to be as good as they are and Touch ID makes unlocking fast and secure. Coming from a 15.6 inch laptop I was worried about going after the 13 inch but the adjustment hasn't fazed me and for the portability the tradeoff has been well worth it. Processing wise its been able to deal with video editing and compiling code without much issue although the fans will kick up so don't be alarmed. For the money and the 'Apple premium' I think its a hefty amount upfront but its longevity and its resale as it holds value better will be a worth it as well as having a top class laptop for many years which I'll enjoy using. I've bootcamped it to be able to boot into Windows 10 anyway so I do get best of both worlds when it comes to the odd Windows only software but it runs Windows faultlessly - after you download the correct drivers of course.Overall I've really enjoyed this purchase and having slowly being sucked into the Apple ecosystem I can say the more you have the more you'll enjoy it. Mac OS isn't faultless but I feel stability wise it's better than Windows - but sadly the webcam is absolutely trash so expect to never use it!

Seemless Functionality At A Cost
On the inside, there is now a much-improved keyboard, which feels comfortable to type on, with decent key travel that results in a satisfying typing experience. Aesthetically it doesn't seem any different to previous iterations but upon opening up the new MacBook Pro 13-inch, however, you’ll see more of a difference. This is because Apple has finally replaced the controversial Butterfly switch keyboard (which was often prone to reliability problems) with the new ‘Magic Keyboard’ which is also used in the MacBook Pro 16-inch and MacBook Air (2020).The Touch Bar, a thin display above the keyboard, is again present, and gives you context-sensitive buttons that you can press. Not everyone loves the Touch Bar and I myself thought it was a gimmick but it is actually quite useful and intuitive and apps like Photoshop now make good use of it, offering you quick access to tools. The TouchID button, which also doubles as the power button, has been separated from the Touch Bar, and now sits slightly apart from it. It makes it a bit easier to find, and it again is a reliable way of logging into your MacBook (or paying for things using Apple Pay) using just your fingerprint. On the other side of the keyboard, the Escape key is now once again a separate button (rather than included in the Touch Bar)Meanwhile, the screen remains the same as last year’s model, which is no bad thing. The Retina resolution (2,560 x 1,600) isn’t the highest we’ve seen in a 13-inch laptop, but to be honest, a 4K resolution on a 13-inch screen is overkill most of the time, and the Retina display of the MacBook Pro 13-inch (2020) is bright and vibrant. Obviously expensive but I personally really like it. The only thing I would say is as there is not a massive difference in price go for the 500gb of storage instead of 256gb.

After a new 2020 Macbook.... choose carefully!
I decided that I would initially purchase the New 2020 MacBook Air, they have the new keyboards, double the SSD size from the previous model and the very latest intel 10th Gen processors - seemed ideal. However, the chassis of the MacBook Air is not particularly cooling efficient and to avoid overheating Apple will throttle the speed of the CPU (or processor) and the cooling fan will regularly be on (which adds unwanted noise). If you are you a light user (web browsing, email etc.) than a MacBook Air would be perfect but it was enough to make me decide to go for a New MacBook Pro instead. However, the new MacBook Pro range in reality has 2 quite different versions...The entry level model has an 8th Gen Intel processor, only 2 x USB-C ports (used for charging, connecting accessories, displays etc.), 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM, whilst only the top end MacBook Pro model has:(1) The latest 10th Gen Intel processor that is faster and more efficient.(2) More capable version of the Intel Iris Pro graphics.(2) Mini-sub woofers speakers(3) A much better twin fan cooling system(4) 4 x USB-C ports.(5) Standard 16GB RAM (which is also faster RAM than the entry level 8GB MacBook Pro).(6) Standard 512GB SSD Hard Drive. If you want the entry level but are thinking of upgrading the SSD and/or RAM than do not - just buy the higher end version. The upgrade costs will push the price up to the high end model which comes with the bigger SSD/RAM as standard anyway and and you will miss out on all the other stuff above. The laptop itself is amazing, very expensive but the build quality and screen is the best I've ever seen in a 13inch laptop. It's blazing fast and a joy to use. Highly recommended (unless you are intend to play games then do not buy under any circumstances! - A windows gaming PC will provide a much better gaming experience at a much lower cost!)
