Is it OK to carry this in your checked luggage on an airline?

It is definitely NOT allowed if filled with fuel. Without fuel is a grey area as this type of fire starter is not listed in the TSA guidelines. It could be considered a lighter which is permitted. A checked bag would pose less questions than a carry-on bag. Ultimately it is up to your discretion.

Does the lighter fluid eventually evaporate when not being used? Like a zippo lighter for example.

So Far I haven’t had evaporation issues with the permanent match like I would a zippo. There’s a rubber O-ring that helps create a very tight seal with the fluid tank. I have left it sitting filled, unused for three weeks and it has about the same amount of fuel in
