Very Detailed Regarding The Individuals Of The Battle
Their names, actions, even some pre Korean war history along with some minor sense of the personalities are detailed in this very engaging retelling of the many soldiers who fought in the brutal, desperate battle of Chipyong Ni.I give it 5 stars on the basis of the research (after action reports, interviews years later, two opinions), the vivid desperate picture the author aptly paints with his writing style, and the sheer volume of individual stories of struggle that are retold. The book is a grand scope. However, for me personally (and I liked the book very much) the scope was too grand. On this item I drop the stars to 3.75. There were just too many ranks, platoon Ids, company, battalion, hills etc etc. Again this may be my own shortcoming but I just couldn’t follow it all. I’d have been more engaged if platoon G, more as a whole, story was told, complete the story of that span of time, then as a wrap up dive more deeply into the individual stories.

good read
As noted by the author, little is written in western text about this war. Take a moment and read about the sacrifice, success, failures and daring of a cadre of troops.

Detailed Perspectives of Leadership
Very well written and detailed accounts of combat and tactics from infantry men through officers. Many gallant stories of winning, in spite of going against the odds. Korea was the start of many police actions started by politicians, and purchased in blood by our combat service members, without a final and complete victory through no fault of our military. Since Korea, many military conflicts have been pursued by the United State's military, under the direction of politicians, with little to no final success or total victory. Some impartial experts should judge whether the outcomes of these wars/conflicts, were really worth the sacrifice of American service members, costs to our son's and daughter's and American taxpayers. Thank you.

Excellent book. I read Mr
Excellent book. I read Mr. Leo Barron's two other books (they can be found in amazon) and this one is just as great as the previous books. The information is easy to follow and I can imagine the battle and events unfolding in my mind as I read. The book is straight to the point so my time is not wasted. My father fought in the Korean War and my mother and her family took refuge from Pyong-Yang during the war so I have a personal appreciation for the book as there are so few books written about the Korean War. I would recommend this to all Koreans that want to learn about our history that helped shaped South Korea to what it is today. This is a wonderful book and it took three days to finish reading because I had a difficult time putting it down. Great purchase.

Hide Tide in the Korean War
This was an interesting story about a part of the Korean War not frequently discussed. Well written and informative.

Well researched book
I'm not a qualified book reviewer but the book the book was rated well by real historians in Army Magazine (AUSA).Not enough maps and those not familiar with Korean place names will struggle to keep up with the action.

Didn't know much about the Korean War so to get a smaller scale, much more personal account gives a fascinating insight into this conflict.

Good
Like the war itself, the battle of Chipyong-Ni is not very well known. The author tries to bring a "day by day" analysis of this dicisive battle similar to Dien Bien Phu in its configuration. This was also a great opportunity for the French to fight along Americans. Indeed, they will be highly congratulated for their performance. Sadly, this book lacks of studies of the French operations in Chipyong-Ni.
