About the Actor John Babcock, the writer of the book upon which the documentary is based, was raised on Sunnygables Farm, Ithaca, NY. Later in life he went on from his WWII tour of duty in the Infantry to become a broadcast executive in radio and television, first in the Midwest and then as Chief Operating Officer of Park Broadcasting in his native Ithaca. Retirement from formal employment was a springboard to a successful consulting career and the writing and publication of two books about his early life. An avid outdoorsman, golfer, skeet-shooter, and hunter, Babcock has always been a valued and beloved member of his professional and personal communities, as charming a storyteller in the flesh as in print. About the Director Emmy awarding winning director/producer Jake Gorst has is the president of Jonamac Productions. Films to his credit include Leisurama (2005), Farmboy (2006), and Desert Utopia, Mid-Century Architecture in Palm Springs (2006). He also serves as Director of Photography and Editor on most projects. Of Leisurama, New York Times writer Alastair Gordon said, "Jake Gorst's documentary film...is a compelling look at American culture in the 1950s and 1960. While the filmmaker has chosen to focus on an amusing marketing concept in affordable housing, he goes out of his way to explain the broader cultural implications of the Cold War and US-style capitalism. Leisurama is a refreshing look at an important era without the usual clichés." Other recent film contributions include the direction of an animated sequence for the film Keeping It Alive by Murray Bruce Productions and associate production on Andrew Geller: A Spatial Encounter (2003, Gallery HD)and Beyond the Beach: The Life and Death of Norman Jaffe (in production, The Jaffe Foundation). Gorst is a historian, architectural preservationist, and contributing writer for VOX and Modernism magazines.
