Klassic Kitchener Vol. 1
P**G
The Steelband Music Composer
Kitchener was the master of composing a catchy calypso. Nobody like Kitch could write music for steelbands. And he probably wrote the most everlasting calypsoes for carnival bands - a true 'Roadmarch King' in Trinidad & Tobago. His legacy is wide and deep and it's almost impossible to cover his recording career within 3 CD records. This CD is the first volume out of three and all three CDs are filled to the brim with classic calypso. In this first volume there are several calypsoes with social a commentary, e.g. 'When a Man is Poor' and 'If Your Brown'. The last mentioned is very close to another Kitch song, 'White and Black', covering the same topic on racism. All calypsoes are among the best ever written, but my favourite CD is Volume 2 with classics like 'The Road' aka. 'Royal Hospital' and 'Miss Tourist'. Many songs have been hard-to-get for decades, but I miss calyosoes like 'Anytime is Trinidad Time' and 'Kaka Roach' - Peter Krog
