Basic Training for the Prophetic Ministry Expanded Edition

This Book is definitely a great resource in growing in the gift of prophecy!! Really helps speak encouraging words, and knock down any walls or lies from the enemy! We were made for more! We are made to walk out who God has created us to be. Destroying hell and the works of the enemy everywhere we go In the name of jesus. This book has a good structure, and contains alot of detail of how to walk in the reality of living by the spirit.

I go back to this book occasionally as it is so well laid out, easy to follow, intuitive, life giving.Chris is the man!

The simplicity at which each topic was broken down, made this book and each subject comprehensible. Thank you for plain language.

I'm using this book to teach the prophetic ministry to a group of women at my Anglican church. It is presented very well and backed up with Scripture placed throughout the text. As I was trained at Morningstar Ministries, and this is coming out of Bethel, there are some differences from what I learned, but they are very minor. Still, I am still very impressed with the study! And my sweet traditional denomination ladies are loving it and seeing so much potential for their lives to touch others!

"True prophecy is looking for gold in the midst of the dirt in people's lives."This statement forms the heart of this book. From this core thought, the writer gives good insight in the role of prophecy, how it functions and gives guidelines how it should be applied.It explains the difference between prophecy in the Old Testament and prophecy in the New Testament and how being a prophet (a special calling from God) is different from being able to prophecy (which is for every believer). It explains the difference between 'the last days' and 'the last day' and how knowing the difference is important to your view of the role the church and prophecy plays. It gives clues how to recognize false prophets (not what you might think) and how to grow in practicing prophecy (hint: it doesn't require talking old, archaic language and ending in 'thus says the Lord').As usual I don't agree with every explanation Kris gives, as I sometimes feel he bends things too much to make it fit into his view (according to Kris a prophets reward is the ability to hear and see. Why? He wouldn't be a prophet without it so how can it be a REWARD?), but I found this book a very nice read nonetheless and coming from a sincere, fatherly heart.

I've read many books on prophetic ministry through the years, many of which have been very good. Kris Vallotton's book distinguishes itself by serving as a "Basic Training" manual for equipping and empowering disciples of Jesus Christ to move in prophetic ministry. Paul wrote to the Corinthians, "Eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially that you might prophesy."This book teaches people how to actually move in the gift Paul admonished us to desire. Vallotton writes for those who are willing to take the risk and allow people to grow in this gift. He covers the pros and cons of prophecy. He suggests healthy guidelines for the functioning of this gift so that people on the receiving end of prophetic ministry are not abused or hurt. I love how he, like some other authors on this subject, delineate between "the word," the interpretation of "the word," and the application of "the word." To find out why distinguishing between those three components is important, buy the book!Vallotton's book has been field tested through his own experience. I used this text for an undergrad class I taught at Oral Roberts University called Charismatic and Pentecostal Approaches to Pastoral Care. After completing the training, I had students pray and practice prophesying over one another. The results were awesome!Want to release prophetic ministry in your church, Vallotton's book offers effective "basic training."

My church used this book as a study guide for a prophetic class. I learned so much and am now excited to grow in my gifting!

This book, quite lengthy but full of useful guidance, is easy to read, challenging at times - and worth re-reading. Thoroughly recommended.

I studied this book as an individual. I can see real value in studying it in a group. I am now looking for others to partner with, to grow in my understanding and practise of the gifts and skills covered in this book.
