Light, relatively compact, but large enough to protect a grown man
I bought this umbrella for my son. He needed a sturdy, reliable umbrella that was small enough to tuck into his backpack, but large enough to provide coverage for a grown man. I am a big fan of the Totes brand and have never been disappointed by the quality or durability of their products. Like other items in the Totes family, it comes with a lifetime warranty ... which I have luckily never had to cash in because I usually lose an umbrella before I break one. This umbrella met my expectations. It's not super compact, but you can't get much smaller when closed and still offer enough coverage when open, right? Closed it measures almost 13 inches long and about 2 inches in diameter. It fits in a backpack or tote bag, but not a purse. Open it's almost 36 inches, which is good coverge for one larger person or maybe two small people who don't mind getting up close and personal. The umbrella is well made of higher-quality materials. It has a velcro closure to keep secure. The velcro is a generous strip of good long-term velcro (not that cheap imitation velcro that pulls loose and stops working after about 3 uses). The ribs and handle are light weight for portability, but sturdy enough to hold up to normal use.

Great for Singing. Not So Great for Descending.
It does a nice job of shielding the top of my dome from thousands upon thousands of irritating rain drops. I needed a replacement compact umbrella that would store nicely in my sport compact car. I can barely cram the kids in the backseat, so I need to make use of every cubic nanometer I can find. You may not ask, "Why did you need a replacement? Did your other one break? Was it defective?" Actually, neither! It held up in quite well during my unquantifiable length of use. "Unquantifiable?" you may ask. Well, yes. Due to its conveniently compact design, I managed to quite unintentionally, place it in a location undeterminable by sight, sound, smell, or bloodhound. I cannot attest to durability in a monsoon, but by firmly gripping the top of the shaft, I was able to angle the top in such away that it would not comically invert during a mild to moderate amount of wind. This will work nicely for an impromptu Gene Kelly impersonation, but probably not so much for a Mary Poppins re-enactment.Pros:CompactKeeps the upper portion of you dryDurable enough if you use strategeryGood enough for singing in the rainCons:Compact enough to lose if you're inattentiveNot good for slow descent from high altitude

Automatic Umbrella Works Well
I bought this to replace an umbrella that I lost. I keep it in my truck for times when I'm out and it starts raining. This one works well for that. I like the auto open & auto close which makes it handy for getting in and out of a vehicle. It works well and drys quickly after being soaked. It is a little smaller than I prefer (it measures 37" diameter when open), definitely a one person umbrella, but folds up nice and small (11" long when closed) and fits under my truck seat. Overall I like it.

Fabulous umbrella. Light, very attractive, convenient and can be counted upon NOT to break down when needed! Great purchase!
Love this Totes umbrella! After having purchased other non-Totes umbrellas and having them literally fall apart on me, i purchased this umbrella and it (we) have survived many a rainstorm! It is nice and convenient because of its size. If the day is sunny, i will usually leave the umbrella in my vehicle. However, if there is even the slightest hint of any cloud formations for that day, this handy umbrella is my companion. When i travel to Europe, i ALWAYS take this Totes umbrella with me. Due to its size i can conveniently slip it into a side pocket of my backpack and it is ready for action as necessary. Belgium of all places have pretty unpredictable weather, and you may have the sun out one moment and a rain shower coming down when you least expected it. It is light and attractive. I really like the wide velcro tab which keeps the umbrella closed, it is stitched very nicely, versus the very small piece of velcro that is very commonly used in other cheaper umbrellas. I am very happy with this purchase.

Another example of you get what you pay for
I have two of these, and I have started to think of them as disposable. In only a few months, the ribs reliably break. They break away from the joint at the top and poke through the canvas or they break in the middle. I don't believe I am treating the umbrella particularly poorly. Will look for a more sturdy option.

Durable, compact and lightweight.
I've had this umbrella for about 5 months now, and I've had no issues with this umbrella. It opens easily and "closes" with one button. You still have to push the umbrella into the base to be able to deploy it again with the button, so just keep that in mind. This feature makes it really easy to get into your car with it without getting your other hand wet and possibly your head/outfit. I would definitely reccomend this umbrella if you plan on using it for only yourself, but it would not work well for a couple if you wanted to share. Also in really bad rainstorms where it's raining at an angle, you'll still get kind of wet because the umbrella circumference isn't that large. In that case, you'd want a bigger umbrella. This fits in a bag easily and is lightweight so it works great for me!

Umbrella DOES NOT CLOSE!
This umbrella WILL NOT CLOSE! I can open it just fine but trying to close it is impossible. It's tough to simply get the umbrella lowered - attempts to fold it into closed position prove difficult.Even when crammed closed - which risks bending the umbrella's arms - it won't stay in that position. To keep it from reopening, I have to wrestle with it and refasten the sash.I got the umbrella through a "Warehouse Deal", which meant it wasn't brand-new - a fact reinforced by the umbrella's signs of wear and tear.A brand-new umbrella may close just fine - it's possible mine got damaged. All I know is this one is worthless and unusable!
