Changed formulation turns cats off
Wellness Natural Signature Selects have been reformulated. The older cans have the purple top shown in the photo online. Our cats loved them, even at the high price compared to other brands. They hate the new formulation (sniff it and walk away). I called the company and they said the new formulation tested well, but admitted that it had not exactly been tested on cats. Huh? Total waste of money. Beware if you are looking for the older formulation with the purple top. Most sellers have not updated their photos online.

Good food but . . .
My cat will not eat pates, preferring shredded food. Of all the brands tried, this is his favorite. He likes it so much he licks the bowl clean. It smells like real food too. But here is the but . . . he doesn't get full fledged diarrhea eating this food but it softens his stools to the point it is worrisome. This food contains THREE different thickening substances: guar gum, tapioca starch and potato starch! Imagine a tiger or lion eating any such. For those of us who've thoroughly researched cat food ingredients/requirements, it would seem adding all three thickeners is overkill. Not to be unkind but I called customer service and the person answering the phone wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise so I'm posting my concerns here. She explained the AAFCO allows both tapioca and potato starches to be put in cat food but that isn't real encouraging. This is an organization setting standards for pet food that makes no distinction between food and feed for our animals so I take their approval in this regard with a grain of salt. So, then, knowing that obviously a thickener needs to be used to keep the meat from all settling to the bottom during preparation, is it necessary to add both tapioca starch and potato starch as well as guar gum? Could it be that all the starches added to this food is the cause of soft stools and/or diarrhea in our cats.Since my kitty likes the food so much, I feed it to him but I mix it with other food to tone down all that starch. Doing this improved his stools but they are still softer than normal. Let's get real here: animals have nutrition requirements just as humans do and it is beyond time that the AAFCO, pet food manufacturers and the people who feed animals become aware of this fact. Let's all do better for our beloved animal companions! It is great that grains are being/have been taken out of so many brands so how about adding as little starch as necessary to process the food? It would be so very much appreciated.

Just one flavor, made in Asia
The product description is completely off. It is NOT 3 different flavors. It is 12 cans of one flavor. I thought maybe Amazon made a mistake and had them replace it, but the replacement was still just one flavor. Also, I’m disappointed that this is not made in North America, it comes from Asia. I won’t be ordering this again.

Not for the pickiest eaters!
I am having a very hard time pleasing my 11 year old cat. He was lost in the Paradise Fire, and not found for five months (what a wonderful miracle!). I could only get him to sample this food. Who knows what he ate out there in the burned out forest... I can’t seem to select the right thing. He has plenty of appetite. Any ideas?

At least with this food she does go back and eat the majority of it unlike other canned food so there is less waste. It seems to
As usual my cat licks all the gravy off first then goes back and eats the meat bits later. For a former feral cat she has become very much a princess when it comes to her eating habits. At least with this food she does go back and eat the majority of it unlike other canned food so there is less waste. It seems to be made with quality ingredients.

Great Deal for Wellness - and Mr. Picky Paws LOVES it!
Our persnickety feline loves the Wellness Signature line and the amazon subscribe and save is an amazing deal. From time to time we do notice that some of the flavors will upset his tummy, but I was told it has to do with the protein percentage. But in all honesty, he eats table food too, so it could be a combination of what he has eaten that day. I do highly recommend the Wellness products in general for picky eaters, we also really like Nutrisca by CatsWell but there is no deal on Amazon so we purchase in bulk from our local Fred Meyer/Kroger.
