Just Plain Fun
I was pleasantly surprised by this fountain. I feel like we are seeing the first model of a product that could over time be greatly improved. For now, it works remarkably well. The construction is of a thin plastic and the interior sponge that acts as a filter is laughably small. I would like to see the manufacturer begin to use more durable materials in future models. I placed mine in an outdoor birdbath that was really a 3 inch deep saucer. The fountain sprays water 12 inches high, at least, when the sun is shining. Do not expect it to work at all on cloudy days. It requires full sun. My neighbor's kids enjoy stepping in front of the panel to allow their shadow to stop the water, then to step aside and turn it on again. Great fun. It worked flawlessly all summer and I have cleaned it and hope to use it again in the spring. The birds did not flock to it, but it did seem to pique their interest. I hope to buy another model this summer for a tadpole pond, and plan to buy from Smart Solar again.

The little pump that could...
This little pump works great when the sun is shining. Where I placed it, this means it runs about 4 hours a day. I have it in a large ceramic basin about 18 inches deep with a few plants and it shoots up about a foot when the sun is steady and goes down from there.I have a lot of trees in my yard and only get sun at certain times so if you have a really sunny spot, this little pump should keep on pumping all day. It makes a nice sound and is very relaxing. The pump is tiny so it is better suited for containers rather than ponds. However, it can also be floated with the black styrofoam disc that is included. I have the nozzle sitting a bit above the water line and used all the included extension tubes and placed it on a rock to achieve that height. Like I said the pump is tiny.Overall I am happy ---just wish I got more sun. This set up doesn't store any energy so my next pump I am going to try one of those for fun.

Too powerful for my bird bath
This pump works just fine, squirts a stream of water pretty high. Of course it only works when the sun is shining, so on a cloudy day it stops and starts, and scares the birds away when it suddenly starts. If the bird bath is too small (mine is), any wind will blow the water stream out of the bird bath, so it's quickly empty. For that reason, I've not used it beyond one day. I took a star off because the unit is hard to anchor. The tiny suction cups don't stick very well to the bottom of the bird bath. I tried a lot of rocks, which worked well and looked nice, but then they have to be removed for cleaning of the bird bath, a hobby I didn't want to start.

not pumping so much anymore
OOPS the price goes up and the quality goes down! I have had more failures with my later pumps- still think that it is a good idea - I just wish they wouldn't mess with a good product for a larger profit margin!!!!! December, 2009earlier I had written . . .I read the negative reviews for this SOLAR pump (some even complain that it only works when it is sunny - - - duh). I have had my first one now for three years and I love it. It couldn't be easier to set up - a couple of screws, stick the panel into ground (it can also be mounted) and put the thingy in the birdbath and VOILA!It isn't a fountain but it is perfect for a birdbath. I played with all the different heads that send the water up higher - about 8 to 10 inches - and opted to just use it with no head and let it bubble to a height of about 4 inches on sunny days and the birds go nuts for it - sometimes they sit right on top of it . . . bet that feels good on a hot day!I confess that I am not that diligent about cleaning it out around the filter BUT this little pump is so forgiving that it keeps going anyway. Occasionally it needs to be taken apart if some debris gets in (you can tell when it happens because it makes a funny humming sound) but the maintenance is so minimal that only a birdbrain would find it a chore.I have had the water wigglers in birdbaths - they're okay but they get funky and rusty - that is why I am buying my second and third solar pump to replace the wigglers in the other baths.

direct sun must be on all parts of the panel
I have this pump in one of my birdbaths. It works well as long as the sun is directly on the panel. If one of the leaves of my crocosmia shades even a sliver of the panel the pump stops. It doesn't work on cloudy days. I put the tube through some stacked flagstone pieces with holes in them and turned it into a rather cute fountain in the birdbath. I also have the 2.6 watt submersible pump with battery pack for my small pond. It works even on cloudy days. I can also turn it off and turn it on. The Solar Sunjet 150 is okay, but I have no control over when it's stopping and starting, cloudy days, or when the wind blows a sliver of leaf across the panel. The two water water pumps are pretty much the same. I recommend the solar pump with the battery pack over this pump.

Excellent!
This is a fine little pump, just exactly right for small water features, bird baths, etc. It doesn't spray water all over the place (as at least one solar fountain I've had did), resulting in your water feature constantly running out of water. Rather, it burbles up in a small fountain, creating a pleasant soft sound just about guaranteed to draw the birds (and other critters too!)I have two large bowls placed on either side of my patio, each with a solar fountain. I tried a different pump in each, to see what I'd like better. This one arrived very quickly, set up easily, began working right away, and has consistently been working everytime there is sun -- this summer, a lot!I just ordered a second of these pumps, for another fountain (the one with the too-strong pump that kept emptying!). I believe this pump will also work well in that water feature.Note, please that this is SOLAR pump. Do not expect this to run 24/7 or you will be disappointed. However, I have no reason to want my fountains running 24/7, and the fact that they run whenever the sun is out makes it extremely pleasant for humans and other animals. This one is a solid performer and easily worth the cost.Edit:2018, 4 years later: I finally must replace 2 pumps, the third still works fine. Still a winner, imo.

Happy with my purchase
It works as expected. As soon as the sun comes out, the pump works. Happy with my purchase.

Looks good whens suns out
Well pleased with the product, used it for a few weeks now its as described, good in direct sun light but splutters when cloudy, solar panel needs to be south facing for the best results I have used this in a very small pond that's set up to attract frogs to my garden, they can easily jump onto the float, tipping it up spraying the water out of the pond so do use the anchoring kit or you could end up with a empty pond.Looks good on full spray.

Does what it says on the tin
Does what it says on the tin. Small fountain super easy to assemble - 2 minutes (needs clean water) and sends up a 10cm jet in direct sunlight, nothing when a cloud comes over. Lets just hope for a sunny summer. If you want a breathtaking fountain buy something more expensive but for a trough or small water feature with no access to power supply this is ideal. I suspect I'll have to follow the sun around by re-positioning the stake on the solar cell - a ball and socket joint on this part would have been useful. I like the selection of nozzles. The floating pad could be better disguised - any ideas?

fun and it does last more than a year
These are great. we bought one 3 years ago and it still works, we do put it in the garage in the winter but there is usually not much sun then :( Just bought another for a water feature and that's good too. you do have to turn the panel to the sun through the day ( not that often though) It's much better than having electric wires running from the house. the fountain does ebb as the sun loses strength and makes you jump when it suddenly leaps into into use.

Marvellous little fountain.
I bought this set in 2016 for my barrel pond. It has been worth the £25 I payed and more.A splendid little fountain and works well even in part shade. Even when it’s been out of use during two winters (sun too low) it’s started working again come spring/summer.I would certainly buy again and heartily recommend this fountain.
