The main reason I bought this was for my cat!
Okay, I'm not crazy. I bought the OXO Good Grips Chopper for my cat. You see, he recently (a few months back) had to have all of his teeth removed due to his own body basically destroying his own teeth. His teeth were keeping his gums inflamed, and according to our veterinarian this happens to many cats. It was a hard decision, but necessary. Cats don't really chew their food, they mostly "tear" off chunks and swallow them. His gums healed quickly and nicely, but this left him with just about no way to make his food easy to "swallow." I found that we were doing a lot of "chopping" portions of his canned food so that he can eat it. Our vet feels that canned meat-based meals helps to keep him hydrated and is more in line with what cats evolved to need. I didn't mind trying to cut up the meat chunks for him, but it was becoming somewhat time-consuming and at times difficult because some of what the pet food manufacturers are canning can be rather "tough!" It was no wonder that our poor cat wasn't able to eat all of his food. One day while attempting to prep his food I had this memory pop-up of a TV commercial for the old "Popeil Chop-O-Matic" food-prep chopper. I'd never used one, but in remembering that idea I immediately pictured using it to chop up our cat's canned meat and seeing the result as him being able to easily eat the finely chopped food. Well, I didn't really consider looking for a "Popeil" chopper, but after looking over a number of reviews I ordered this OXO Good Grips Chopper. It arrived very quickly (next day!) and it was just as shown in the reviews. After giving it a thorough wash and re-assembly, I put in a can of cat food and "chopped" away! In seconds this little gadget produced exactly what I'd been thinking we needed, but more importantly, our cat showed me that it was the right decision. He cleaned his bowl, which he hadn't been able to do for some time. This little device produces a much finer and more consistent result than anything I can do by hand. Plus, it's quite practical to use and clean because it can work either directly on a cutting board or with the included chopping chamber. The cat food is best chopped in the chamber, which has a removable bottom plate that seals itself with a rubber seal and also has a seal-able lid if you want to "chop and store." What we do is open a fresh can, chop the meat and then return it to the can and serve multiple meals from the can that has its own sealing top. The OXO comes all apart, so you can easily rinse it off and then wash it along with anything else you need to clean up. If you don't want to wash it right then, you can let it set until your ready to do the dishes because it's not going to hurt any of the plastic parts and the chopping blade is stainless steel, so don't worry about it! My wife recently had a lot of baking to do for an upcoming camping trip (she likes to pre-bake a lot of goodies for the group!), and that meant chopping nuts, fruits, etc. and the OXO "sailed through it all" without a blink! How fine do you want your walnuts? Just keep chopping until it's just the way you want it, and it doesn't take long, either. The OXO Good Grips Chopper has been an excellent buy and has been a God-send for our cat. Does it have any downsides? Well, the most negative aspect I've found is when you've pulled it all apart to wash it and then put it back together again, there is a small problem with getting the part that the blade protrudes through when you "chop-down" on the handle doesn't always "lock" into the body that you hold in use. Lock may be too strong of a word; it's more like it fits into the body with a slight interference-fit, which doesn't really hold it very firmly in place. But that just means that sometimes you have to push the part back up and try again to make it stay-put. I didn't mark the chopper down for that because it's possible I just haven't gotten a "feel" for how the part actually "locks" yet. All-in-all, this is a great addition to our kitchen and I can't recommend it enough!

OXO Good Grips Chopper -- It's very good. Really.
I have owned several choppers that basically use the same approach, since the first "'Slap Chopper" I ordered from a TV ad. I have some joint problems and can no longer wield a knife comfortably to chop vegetables, nuts and herbs. And often using a food processor just seems a bit much to use and clean up. But chopping stuff in a device like this is easy for my bum hands and relatively easy to clean. Only problem with my earlier iterations was that they were poorly made and broke in just a few months of using them as directed. I've had good luck with OXO utensils and thought this one was worth trying. So far, I'm very pleased. The plastic housing is substantial and the plunger (the part you 'slap') works smoothly and the top is fairly flat which makes it easy to slap it with enough force to work the chopper (previous ones I uses has a round top on a narrow neck that broke after a fairly short time.Other reviewers have complained about the amount of dis-assembly necessary to clean it. I found it fairly easy and I liked how thoroughly the unit cleaned up in the dishwasher. My only complaint is the relatively small amount one can chop at a time (1/4 onion, 1 quartered carrot, etc.) -- and this is the 'large' chopper. They have another smaller one for herbs. I would prefer if it were larger, but it works so well that even doing several small batches doesn't take much time.I'll have to use it for a awhile to be able to comment on Good Grips Chopper's longevity --- but so far, it's very promising.

Great for baby food
I have 3 of them and use them 2+ times each day to chop meals for my young kids. More chopping for the younger one. I only use it in the cup that it comes with and it does well most of the time. It has (expected) issues with steak by itself. It self scrapes well until the pieces puree. If I chop veges, I usually have them cut up to adult size portions, so no "1/4 onion" (my Henckels tear through them). We use it for hot meals and the rubber edge on the bottom (that removes to work on a cutting board) has deformed and become increasingly hard to friction fasten to the "cup". Any oil (or peanut sauce) now often loosens the bottom.I love these things and wish they could handle the abuse we "dish out" to them. Perfect for getting babies on solids. No power needed so you can bring it to the dinner table and turn pasta with chicken and broccoli into bites sized for any kids. Just chop more or less.would be 5 star is the rubber were silicon or something that could handle the heat. Dishwasher cleaned.
