At 22 years of age, Lysander Hawkley (Stephen Billington) is out of work and in debt. His sexual exploits continually make the tabloids, so his friend Ferdie suggests that he turn it to his advantage by hiring himself out to women who have been cheated on by their spouses in order to make their husbands jealous. When he is employed by Kitty, however, Lysander finds himself going beyond the bounds of duty.

A lovely bit of escapism
Ok I think we need to start with the fact that this was a tv movie not a Hollywood blockbuster. Ok characters Lysander I liked I thought Stephen Billington was well cast in the role and very believable as Lysander even though I thought from the book Lysander would have had more reddy brown hair but that's just me. He portrayed Lysanders need to be nice and loved very well. Ferdie was not how I expected Hugh Boniville was much better looking then I expected ferdie to be. I loved marigold played by Gilly Coleman absolutely brilliant. The movie is closer to the book then Riders was although I would have liked to have seen Rupert and Taggie, all in all a nice feel good easy watch.I actually wish some more of her books had been made into tv movies it's a lovely bit of light entertainment for a rainy evening and without the Hollywood glitz it's a bit of believable escapism which is needed when your feeling a bit naff.

OK to watch, entertaining enough but spoiled by some bad casting
This wasn't a bad watch but some of the casting leaves a lot to be desired. Stephen Billington is not nearly handsome enough to be Lysander, Gerard Butler would have been so much better! Guy Seymour was also supposed to be really handsome, but he was really ugly (sorry) there's no way he would attract pretty young girls unless he was really loaded haha!! Marcus Gilbert could have worked better here! Flora was good casting, as was Ferdie and Marigold, her transformation in the film worked well. Kitty wasn't bad but she was supposed to be overweight. Her character in the film wasn't quite right either.

It's ok. I'd give it 2.5 stars.
Having read the book, I was really eager to watch the film, but was very disappointed with it. Huge chunks of the book are missing. Kitty is really strange- she's easily vexed and doesn't look anything like the innocent one portrayed in the book. Rannaldini looks and behaves in a slightly effeminate manner. He's supposed to be quite macho! Lysander wasn't stunningly gorgeous- he's adequate. Guy was hideous!!! Georgie and Guy were supposed to be beautiful, but they look awful in the film, especially Guy! There is nothing about Rupert and Taggie, and Natasha doesn't even exist. Flora looks a bit too old to be a school girl, and David Hawley has a shock of white hair! The acting is a bit stiff, the story a bit slow, the tennis match looked more like tennis for beginners, the Valhalla concert like a school play, and the film overall simply doesn't do Copper's book and justice.Good points: The introduction is quite sexy, and the music played when Rannaldini first arrives in his Mercedes is fitting (excellent).
