Recently published in 2021, this short, small format book holds a surprising quantity of information. For each of a few dozen buildings, it devotes two to six pages describing its location, its history and its features. As a bonus, it lists movies that were shot there. All are open to the public at least part of the year but details in that respect are not provided, wisely letting the reader consult the Internet for up-to-date information.Further contributing to the overview, a few colour photos of each building are included, touching the exterior, the interior and the gardens. The book’s lay-out is contemporary, lively and attractive.Sadly, the work ends abruptly without a conclusion and neither an index nor a bibliography is provided.Still, this swell and inexpensive offering will prove most valuable for all curious of British architectural heritage, even those not planning an on-site visit shortly.
