9 years old, and still works like new
I bought the kettle 9 years ago and I put it in a shared workspace so that my coworkers can use it for tea and coffee, along with my daily use. In 9 years, a couple of things have changed... I think it's a little louder than it was (to be fair, I don't remember how loud it was when I bought it now) and the print above the on/off button has worn completely off from heavy use. It still gets used several times a day, and it still works. I've never seen rust when I clean it to get the mineral buildup out.Design wise, it doesn't have any features, to be honest, which was fine when I bought it. I would probably get a gooseneck kettle now, but the reliability of this one is hard to beat. It's a lot like that 20 year old car that doesn't have a lot of features but still runs and you hate to get rid of it because it just won't break and you kinda want to see how long it goes. That's what this kettle is - it just goes and goes and goes forever.

Excellent Stainless Steel Electric Water Kettle
This is a review for Secura SWK-1701DB 1.8 Quart Stainless Steel Double Wall Electric Water Kettle. This is probably the best Electric Kettle that we've owned. This review is being provided after 6 months of every day usage (about 2-3 times per day) of this kettle. We live in a sea-level area (from the perspective of water boiling temperature) and have hard water. So yes, there is mineral build-up on the bottom of the kettle - but this is to be expected. Provided instructions give directions on how to remove this, but the deposits (after 6 months of use) are not to the level that we've had to descale it yet.PROS:- One of the most important positives is that we've had ZERO rust anywhere on the surface (internal or external). I've seen pictures provided by other reviewers of the rust - we have not (yet) experienced any of it.- No direct contact of water or steam with plastic. Internals and how they are finished and connect with external plastic shell are all stainless steel. No plastic or rubber switches or seals of any kind in contact with water/steam.- So far, plastic toggle on the handle provides for smooth and convenient operation/opening of the top lid and fairly sufficient enough opening to fill it with water.- Base sits flat on the surface of the counter and does not wiggle. Kettle fits well on the base and does not wiggle. If base/kettle is bumped a little, it will not easily topple over.- Thermally it is well made and in most of the places, even when water is at full boil, you will not burn your hands by touching the outside. Exception to this is the top lid (which makes sense) and inside of the handle that is closest to the top. So you just have to hold the handle a bit lower than the top bend (it is hot, but not to the point of instant burn).- Handle is one solid piece. Overall diameter of the handle is fairly thick, but comfortable fit for an average hand (male or female). For an individual with small hand, the handle might feel a bit thick.- Balances well when full of water while pouring. Spout is well made - pouring is controlled and water does not spill when pouring.- Finish/Colors are bright and well made (it's plastic and is not painted - so this will not fade). Easy to wipe and does not leave fingerprints (maybe this is a bit different on darker colors).- Water retains temperature for significant amount of time (of course depends on your temperature preference). But after 30 minutes of full boil, water is still significantly warm.- Automatic shut-off switch works well - does not seem it will break off easily and shuts-off well every single time (again, 6 months daily usage)CONS:- Very loud when gets close to full boil- Lot's of steam coming from the spout during boiling. You should pay attention where this kettle is placed during operation. It should not be placed under counters (of any material) or under hanging plants. Basically you want lot's of air around and on top for steam to dissipate. Definitely ensure children do not have access to this appliance.- No window to see water level. This is fine, since when such a feature is present, it usually means there is plastic inside- No temperature control: it's either on or off.

Update: Just Bought #3
The review below was written several years ago when I purchased my first of these excellent kettles. I celebrated Prime Day this fall by ordering a replacement for the first one, which I destroyed. Here's what happened: I was moving the kettle, including its base, aside in order to pull my food processor forward. My counter is a little crowded, so to make room, I pushed it sideways onto the stove. None of the burners were on--I am not that careless!--but unfortunately, one burner had been on quite recently, and I became aware of this fact when I reached over to move the kettle back into position--but I couldn't remove it from the burner. It was melted onto the stove! (The base melted, but the kettle is still intact, and I'm not throwing it out, either.)Well, it takes a special kind of person to destroy a product this well made, and that person is me.When I was ready to replace it (so, about five minutes later,) I realized that I didn't need to shop around. I got into my account to find the brand name of my beloved kettle, and once I found it, I knew what I wanted to buy. It was a nice little bonus that it came in candy apple red, a nifty little punch of color to add to my kitchen.______________________________________________________________________I am home all day, and most of our household is either first-gen Asian or Asian-American, so a fast supply of hot water is important to us. I considered buying a samovar, but didn't want to sacrifice the counter space for such a large item, plus the prices were too high. For the past twenty years we have gotten by with a small, cheap, plastic hot water maker on each floor, so one in the kitchen and a second one in the master bedroom. Instant noodles, instant coffee, hot chocolate, tea, you name it, we want it. But the cheap appliances have to be replaced every year or two, and they don't make more than a couple cups of hot water, which means constantly having to refill them. The most recent cheapo appliance doesn't even work very well, and I decided to take one step up. I am really glad I did.First you should know that this isn't really cordless; the pot itself is cordless but rests on a corded base. Nevertheless I find it much, much easier to use. I don't have to wedge my mug below the hot water spout, and I don't have to either pick up a corded unit to pour out of it, or try to wrestle a cord loose from the plug in of a very hot container of water. I just pick the pot up and use it; so much easier, so much safer. The cord coils itself around the base of the appliance and can be let out to put in the outlet at any point, so we don't lose counterspace to a long, coiling cord as we did with one of the last two cheapies. With my other two, I actually found it easier to fill a cup full of water and go pour it into the appliance. That's not happening with this one. I just pick it up and carry it to the tap. The corded base stays behind. When I first received this item about a month ago, I was initially concerned about the fact that the minimum and maximum markings are on the inside of the pot, but after I used it a few times, I realized it wasn't a problem. I know by the heft of the hot water pot whether I need to refill it or not. It holds a great deal of water, but the maximum amount, which is also at about the place where the vent holes for the spout begin, is too heavy for my arthritic hands, and I don't need to fill it all the way. I fill it just a little over half full, and that's good enough for the morning. Come evening I fill it again.I want to mention safety here. There are no small children in our home, but we do have a very active, large puppy and a grandson that is here a couple times each month. Ox the oversized beagle is impulsive, and I worried, before I replaced our old dead hot water maker, that he might snag his paw in the long, curving cord and scald himself. That won't happen here, because the cord leads directly from the back of the pot's base to the wall outlet. There's no cord on the front of the counter. However, when the grandbaby starts walking I will still have to be careful, because there is nothing to secure that big pot of boiling water to its base. It's convenient but not safe around small children, who can easily reach up and pull that whole hot pot down on their own trusting little heads and hands. I plan to move it to the back of the stove once this becomes a possibility. All told, I am really happy. I like its appearance, its convenience, and the fact that I have a good hot pot of water for whatever I need inside about a minute. I would buy this product again in a heartbeat.

Function as expected, bigger than the look, no spill protection
Shipped from US and took a while to arrived approximately 3 weeks. Although it was within the estimated time frame, more close to the end date. The current one was broken and felt very long.Functions are as expected. and simple to use - one button at the bottom to turn on, one button at top of handle to open the lid. The lid pops up quite vigorously but I can live with it.Switches off automatically when the water bodied with lid is on which was what I needed and overall happy with it. Outside does get warm a bit but not burning hot and I can hold it, which was a bonus for me.What I was not expected but not a big deal is that it was larger than it appeared in the photo image. I should have got the measure out and check at the counter. What I did not see and I wish I knew before the purchase is that that there is no spill protection. The lid is literally just "sitting on top with hinge" and steam comes out from the gap so top of lid is pretty wet after boil. Also, the boiled water could get spilled out around spout all over if the tilt is too much, and from the side if you turn the kettle side ways. Nothing is sealed for water spilling. This is the only one thing I never had to worry about with Breville one I had before. I thought spill protection was given for any kind and did not even image this potentially dangerous part of this kettle. It would have been a full 5 mark if the lid had some kind of feature for water to only come out from the spout.

Fantastic for use with well water
Love this kettle! Not just because it's my favourite colour but that it is so easy to clean calcium & limescale out of it. We are on a well & this well does have a fairly high level of minerals & calcium. Great for drinking but terrible for kettles! The wide opening is a big plus even my husband's hand can get in there & wipe out the interior. It's fast to boil & I love the fact that the interior is self contained so that if I choose to use a chemical descaler product there is no chance of the chemical leaking into an area & wrecking the kettle.... yes that has happened to me. This kettle is very loud compared to my previous 1500watt kettles but I contacted the company to see if mine was defective in some way. Had a response very quickly & apparently it is because of this particular design, my kettle tested in the normal range of decibels. It's not super loud just louder than we were used too. A very minor issue considering how great this kettle is in everything else. I only gave this kettle 4☆ because of a safety issue I have noticed. Now that we are aware of it we are careful. Beware of burning potential. When the kettle boils steam escapes up through the button on the handle & all up through the lid. I've been steam burned before, it is the nastiest type of burn you can get. It happens very fast & it continues burning through your skin layers longer than you might think. Please be careful when it boils! Once it is turned off the steam dissipates quickly.

Large capacity
I use my kettle at least 6 times a day every day. This kettle is a works horse. The first one I purchased lasted 5 years. I was impressed enough to repurchase the same one.
