R.E. Lee, A Biography (Pulitzer Prize Edition 4 vols complete)

Received this today and was impressed but I wouldn’t classify it as “like new.” It’s definitely an set which I completely understand and it shows character with the fading and appearance. Book 2 shows the most used of all 4 with the cover and outside hard to read. All in all the set is complete and while it looks and feels old (which it is) it’s still a good set for the prices I’ve seen anywhere else. Unless you want to drop around $500-$800+ on a perfectly mint set this is well worth the money. It’ll be given as a gift to a family member who is a history buff especially with the civil war.

Bought this to replace a damaged set. Since it’s out of publication it really was a find. The set is in mint condition.

Arrived in great condition, wrapped well, and quick delivery. The books are the best biography ever written on Gen. Lee. Well documented in understanding the character of the man, his duty to family and southern culture at the time of his life. I can't put it down.

Freeman's writing based on objective fact from exhaustive research combined to found an entire school of writers, the Virginia school of Civil War Scholarship. It may sound tedious, as I am sure the research was, but it reads as easily as a grand novel. I cannot imagine a better book on the subject being written - I believe it to be the benchmark on the subject.This work has stood the test of time. A Pulitzer Prize winner, it deserves to be read as much today as when it was first published.

This is quite simply the best book I have ever read concerning the Civil War. The writing is detailed and eloquent. It lacks the partisanship and revision so often found in this field. So many misconceptions laid to rest, so many questions were answered by Mr. Freeman's scholarship, that I, who have spent many years reading about the War Between the States, felt as if I had just begun to learn again. That is a very rare experience for an old man and a treasured one. Timeless works will often lead to such experience, and Mr. Freeman's classic qualifies as such. It must be the standard against which all other books on this subject matter are judged.
