No DVD! The REV HEAT REVIVAL still good CD
I thought I ordered the 15 song REVIVAL CD with a short doc and 3 Live songs DVD for 17 bucks.Oh well. The CD covers 15 songs at 46 minutes and it’s hard to find a bad one.The highlight is the first 6 songs really! Rockabilly jams from Happy Camper to Callin In Twisted; and if forced to pick a favorite I’d say New York City Girls which mixes in that cool Jazz vibe (and Jim “Rev Horton” Heath’s appropriately smoother vocals). Then the change of pace slow country blues Someone In Heaven. I personally love the variety.Accompanied by drummer Scott Churilla - and on stand up bass by Jimbo Wallace - Rumble Strip is the rockabilly jam later in the set that stands out.Party Mad sneaks in some piano (nobody credited) while Lonesome Man is just another good, catchy country blues tune.Horton Heat also writes a catchy rockabilly tune called I’m your Pet Rock.I still gave REVIVAL (2004 release) 4 1/2 stars despite the DVD not being part of the purchase. But this trio is just surprisingly good. Not a shock REVEREND HEAT has a loyal following.By the way this is my 4th REVEREND HEAT album purchased in a 3 week period from December 6 2017 — when I saw him/them headline Christmas show — to December 28. It started festively with We 3 Kings.Just call me a confirmed believer in The REV too.

Enhanced?
After getting a second copy of this disc from Amazon and not finding anything other than the music tracks on it, I suspect that the "enhanced" version has been discontinued and only the non-enhanced version is available. Hopefully they will update their website to reflect that.Other than that, this is typical Horton Heat- a lot of great songs, with one or two mediochre songs.

Give the Man a Hand
Reverend Horton Heat hasn't put out a "proper" studio record in the last five years, which makes "Revival" his most recent studio effort and hopefully not his last. This is on yet another record label. Yep Roc stepped up to the plate this time and put their money in Jim Heath & Co.'s collective pockets. Money that was wisely spent.Just like his last release, "Lucky 7", and the one before, "Spend A Night In The Box", "Revival" continues a bit of a trend toward more "mature" songs. He still rips it up on plenty of tracks. And his live shows are always high-energy. But the psychobilly tendencies are starting to be replaced by a lot more mid-tempo songs. The production on his last few records are much cleaner than his earlier efforts. Country influences run thru a few songs. And a more old-school & true rockabilly sound is present. But it's still The Rev. He still rocks. His musicianship is still incredible. And the songs always speak for themselves. All fifteen songs are well-done with "Callin' In Twisted" & "If It Ain't Got Rhythm" stealing the show. All in all, another solid disc from that Texas psychobilly mad-man we all love. It's worth your time, energy & cheese!
