Officemate Prong Paper Fasteners, 1 inch Capacity, 2.75 inch Base, Box of 50 Complete Sets, (99851)

I’ve used these since the mid seventies when I worked as a pathology transcriber at a big hospital. We used them on patient files. Since then I use them at home for personal files. Great alternative to pesky staples! When out & about shopping, I never remember to look for these - so most times, I’m out. So glad to find them on Amazon. Now I will have plenty when I need them. :)

You get what you pay for. Not needing 100 backing pieces and 100 folding front pieces (sold separately) I opted to purchase a less expensive box of 50 complete units. With the stronger (100/box) type I was able to use one fastener per year opening and closing it to add one page each week. These items are made of very soft metal and I find they break after being opened and closed a few of times. Not recommended unless you only want to open and close it once or twice. UPDATE: The 2 broken ones must have been user error! I've been a bit more gentle with the others and they have worked very well being opened and closed each week for one year. I'll raise this rating to a 4 star, another star if the edges were a little less sharp.

Although I am not a lawyer I've had 7 years experience in and out of courtrooms, so I help friends file motions and do my own as well. These are exactly what lawyers use, and I find them to be sturdy enough and work well.

Everything is just as described, size, shape, material, great quality.This 2" size is perfect with the regular two punch holes and for the price, is cheaper than driving to your nearest store, plus you will get them at your home/office right away.I was amazed i choose the 2 day delivery and i got them in less than 24 hours. These work as designed and I didn't have a problem with their use. There are multiple sellers. I purchased this order from Sold by: Amazon.com Services LLC. My issue is that the box says there 50 sets. There were 45 bases and 50 compressors. I am very disappointed with this. I have no use for the extra 5 compressors.

These fasteners are pretty nice and I regularly use them.But considering I bought them on here for 1/3 the price they are now, it's hard to want to buy any more. I would recommend searching for cheaper ones.UPDATE EDIT: These fasteners will no longer be purchased by me even if they cost a penny per box. These are no longer manufactured in the USA, but now China, according to Officemate customer service. The quality and strength of these fasteners has been significantly reduced and they are of no use to me. They are now flimsy and too flexible they won't hold together as much paper before coming loose. And now way too expensive for their lack of quality which is why I reduced from 4 stars to 1 star. If they were super cheap now that they are no longer made in the USA, I might give 2 stars.

Perfect and a budget idea to make a "book" from print outs. Have used upto 250 pages till now but It can have a lot more. No tearing so far, and sturdy enough.Hope this has helped you in making a decision.

These fasteners do work, they hold the papers together and are large enough to hold quite a few pages. The problem is that the prongs are made of such thin metal that they don't want to lay flat after you bend them over and the sliders that are supposed to keep them laying flat are so loose on the base that they just slide out of the way. I didn't have any bunches of paper come apart due to this, but they did get very loose and I had to keep tightening the fastener.The only way I could get these to hold, and continue to hold, tightly was to put the sliders on the base where they would effectively trap the prongs, then use a pair of pliers to crimp the sliders onto the base. I shouldn't have to do that...they should stay put without having to crimp them...so I can only give these 3 stars.

This is how the box came to me. Damaged and kept together by tape. I bet if I counted there wouldn’t be 50 fasteners in the box. I bought it together with the hole punch and both boxes were damaged and the items appeared to be used.

I used it to bind some books for my kids, however, it's really easy to come off since its just a piece of really thin metal.
