Kalles Kaviar cod roe 6-pack

I like this kind of thing. It's salty and a little smelly, very much like the famous Taramosalata of Greece, which you pretty much have to make yourself, beginning with a little jar of dry salted Cod roe caviar. This is easier and tasty, put on buttered toast as in the picture. THE PROBLEM is that in three tries I've gotten damaged tubes every time, so it arrives quickly and maybe still cold, but there's food spread around in the package, I have to wash it off and see what's still good. The tubes are soft enough to be punctured by each other (!!), the corner where the tube is closed at the bottom I suppose. Nasty! This could be prevented forever by a simple turn of newspaper or paper towel or some packing material from a big roll. It really decreases the value I think, that's three out of three gross experiences. I really do enjoy the stuff out of an unbroken tube. The product might be salty and preserved enough to not be a huge food hazard, but we're not even TRYING here! My last order was sort of loose in a box along with a big piece of hardware, and no general packing... so the tubes got a good beating. I'm saying it's getting worse!

Wondered about ordering and shipping during summer. But it appeared okay. Tastes just fine. Some of the tubes have been in refrigerated for 3 months now. One opened last week was as good as new.

You put it on eggs and sandwiches. As a swedish person I love this stuff. Great gift for my other swedish friends in USA.

These arrived thrown into a plain box mixed with other hard goods and no packing material. Of course they ruptured and leaked. I live in new mexico and the temps are in the mid 90's. The smell is unimaginable. Besides, these must be kept refrigerated. The manufacturer's website says they must be kept at 2-8 C. I will just assume they are not refrigerated at the warehouse either.This was supposed to be a rare treat that I was very excited about. Now I am sad.

Caviar was delivered in a cold pack which was wonderful. It was a great help to know vendor packed it so well. Product was wonderful and very good.

I love Kalles Kaviar, but it has been a hassle buying it via Amazon. Most of the time, the tubes arrives broken and it's kaviar all over. Many vendors also don't ship it cold with ice packs, including when it's shipped from Amazon, and I've learned that if a vendor shipped it cold in a previous order, doesn't mean they do now. I unfortunately only have had one successful delivery out of about six. Really frustrating, but none of that is the fault of the product. Kalles Kaviar is awesome. It would be even better if they still sold the version with dill, which used to be my absolute favorite as kid.

I bought this after looking up a few Swedish recipes and figured I'd give it a try. It is a powerful taste but i put it on egg and krispbread and it is just right. I've also taken to putting a smear on crackers with hot sauce dobbed on top; like a quick hors d'oeuvres! (Pinky up!)

Being an expat Swede, I know Kalles Kaviar from childhood. It is a great product, I jokingly call it "Swedish peanut butter", I love it. I was very happy when I was able to order it from Amazon, which I have done several times now. The problem is with the packing/shipping. Sometimes it has showed up beautifully packed and with a few disposable ice packs, since it is a perishable product. But most times the packing has been awful/non-existing. My last shipment, six tubes were in a plastic bag, packed together with a 15 pound box of cat food, and no padding at all. The Kaviar was crushed and a total loss. These aluminium tubes are quite fragile and needs to be packed/padded carefully, not together with other heavy items.
