WOW - what an awesome bike!
So I looked around for several months and after much research i went with this bike. I am not disappointed in my decision. This bike has 5 assist settings ... I mainly bought this to help with pulling my beach cart to the beach about a half mile away. We do ride as a family though up and down the coast. I set it on assist 1 to ride with the family and get good exercise still but some assist. With an assist of 1 and some manual throttle on take off I went 15 miles round trip and they battery did not move off of full. Pulling the beach cart I put it on an assist of 3 and going into the headwind it is a simple task. Before getting this my old bike was almost impossible to pull the beach cart into the head wind at times. In summary, absolutely love this bike and am thrilled with the purchase!

Nice Bike
First of all I like the bike very much. I live in Hilton Head and this bike is perfect for how I plan to use it. This includes riding on the beach and on the many bike paths on the island. I've had it for about 10 days now and have gotten used to how it works best for me. More on that in a bit.It arrived with a small scrape on the frame about the size of a quarter and down to the metal. It was under secure padding and packing material so the scrape occurred before shipping. A bit of a quality control issue. I called about it and was told I could take it to a bike shop and have it painted and be reimbursed for the expense. I'll just buy some paint and take care of it myself. It isn't a big enough deal to return the bike but it is disappointing to have a brand new bike that already has a visible ding.Interestingly, right on the shipping box, you are warned in big bold type that the bike should be assembled by a certified bicycle mechanic. What? Tower touts that it is a direct to consumer company. Given that, would anybody think that they would need to take it to a bike shop for assembly? No. Are they hedging their bets in case you do something wrong during assembly? Probably. Anyway, I certainly wasn't taking it to a shop and it was a relatively easy assembly process. This despite a crummy instruction manual. The problem with the manual is it seems to have been copied for the thousandth time on a poor b and w copier. The pictures are useless. Better to go to the website and pull it up there. The pictures on line are clear and in color and you can see what the arrows are actually pointing to.As far as performance, the gears work as expected, at full throttle I can cruise at 20mph if I wish. For most use, I find it is best to set the assist to 0 and use the throttle to assist my pedaling. I live in a nearly flat area so, even on the lowest setting, the pedal assist is more than I need. By setting to 0 and using the throttle, I can give it just the amount of assist to pedaling I want. The controls work well and the display, while small, is easy enough to read and does all I need.I'm pleased with the overall quality, except for that maddening scrape, and it is cool looking.

Great bike!
After buying a cheaper bike and not being happy with the quality and customer service from the vendor, I sold it and bought the Beach Bum and am glad I did. The other bike had a less powerful motor and could not get up the steep hills near my house, but this bike handles them easily, without even going to the max level 5 of pedal assist. In fact, I've only had to use level 5 once or twice, 3 is more than adequate. The battery seems to last forever and I've never had it down lower than 4/5 bars. I have gotten a lot of compliments on the looks and it feels solidly built. It was shipped to me in 2 days and was easy to assemble, I took it to a bike shop after a few days to check it out and they said everything was perfect. Tower has been responsive to my questions and sent me a new pedal the next day when I had a minor problem with one of them. If you live in an area with steep hills, this is the bike for you. But even if not, it's a great bike for cruising around. It's not a mountain bike so don't buy it to go flying off curbs or mountain trails, but if you want a solid bike for a reasonable price to ride around town, this is the bike for you.

A styling ride for anybody, I love it!
I am very happy with the Tower Beach Bum Electric Cruiser. It was easy to put together if you are at all mechanically inclined. The bike is made with quality parts and cruises nicely at 20 mph. I get nothing but compliments on how nice it looks and the price is somewhat in the middle as far as electric bike go. Sweet bike, go buy one. *****Only downside is that FedEx shipping sucks, The bike came with a torn box, some of the paint was scraped up and there was a gouge on it. I don't know what the hell FedEx does with it's packages but it needs to stop.*******

Saved a ton, Hello joy!
Rides great, super long battery, the throttle is excellent and Tower is very responsive company.I didn't want to spend $3,000 or more for just one electric beach-cruiser I test rode at a local store, so I saved some serious cash with this bike. If you're reading this far into the product, then I can tell you that it's for real. Comfy seat, strong motor, easy to balance, looks classic, name brand tires. We've probably got 100 miles in the first week, and couldn't be happier. My wife loves it, and after a tiny dog basket, the bike is now a part of our family. Hello Joy!
