The Art of Training Your Dog: How to Gently Teach Good Behavior Using an E-Collar Hardcover – October 6, 2020

I have a roughly 6 month old German Shepherd/husky mix that we adopted when he was about 5 weeks old (unsure of his age as he was a stray). We did positive only training with him and took 2 obedience classes (also positive only) through a big box pet store. He's a smart boy and picks up commands easily but there comes a point in which all the treats in the world can't compete with things like: other dogs, cats, cars, people, squirrels, etc.I honestly don't even remember how I came across this book but I bought it on a whim. I was immediately captivated in the first few chapters, which went over the backgrounds of the Monks of New Skete and Marc Goldberg, and explained their philosophy behind training with the e collar and how they came up with this program. So I bought the recommended collar and started working with my Bandit.We are on lesson 6 I believe which is basically doing the "purposeful walk" (explained in the book) outside with distractions. I was really nervous the first time I took Bandit out front to try out our training. He did well in the house and the backyard, but that was how our positive only training was too- great in the house and backyard but fell apart once we went out around the neighborhood.To my great surprise and happiness, our first walk out front went EXCELLENT- I couldn't believe it, honestly. It was like I had a whole different puppy than I'd had before. I almost cried.We still have a ways to go in the lessons but so far I am thrilled with the results. I got the hardback version and it's a beautiful book. The pictures that go along with the lessons are very helpful as well.

This is the second dog training book I’ve purchased from the monks. The lessons they teach give me hope and confidence and not the guilt I used to feel for failing to train my dog “correctly”.

The Monks of New Skete have done it again. Concise. Practical. Well written. You can't go wrong with any of their books about dogs.

Ever read a book and wonder how to implement what you just read? Not this book! Once you’ve gotten to read this wonderful book, in the back of the book is almost like ANOTHER BOOK!You've got a whole entire lesson plan on how to accomplish what they teach in the book in 6 weeks. Then you’ve got the breakdown of each lesson. How many times you’ll do the lesson, for how many days and exact step by step instructions to successfully complete the lesson!This book won’t just excite you to train your dog or give you a few ideas to try. If you complete the lessons you’ll have a well trained dog!I understand that e collar training isn’t for everyone but you can still read and do the lessons in this book on a flat collar and leash! I recommend it to everyone whether or not they plan to use an e collar. I think this book should be MUCH higher up in the dog training section of books on amazon because you actually LEARN how to train your dog with this book unlike many others!

This book has been life changing and I'm only 3 weeks into the 6 week plan. I've "trained" both dogs as pups - a Siberian husky and GSD - but was unsure of how to involve an e-collar. Even though both dogs know general commands, I've been sticking to the book's plan and approach and it has not failed. Both dogs are responding well, bad behaviors are starting to diminish, and I am thoroughly enjoying walks with my dogs! It's an easy to follow step by step method and well written with excellent print quality and photos. I also have really enjoyed and received a lot of value with their social media support. I can't recommend this book enough!

I researched the use of e collars for over a year without ever actually taking the plunge to try them out with my dog. I love my dog more than anything, so I wasn't prepared to take the chance that I might mess up or do something wrong and that I might hurt my dog or damage our relationship in the process. I've read multiple books. I've watched multiple trainers, but it wasn't until I read this book that I actually felt comfortable enough to try e collar training for myself. The way that the book is written leaves no room for guessing. It truly is a step by step guide. The philosophy shared is one of loving leadership, which I really connected with. I enjoyed this book and the wisdom within it so much that I went straight out and bought Let Dogs Be Dogs, which is another book by Marc and The Monks. I think every dog lover can benefit from the decades worth of knowledge shared in their books!

This is a beautiful book that looks like it would be just as at home on a coffee table as a reference in the yard while training. It's straightforward and so clearly written. There is as much focus on the 'why' as the 'what' and 'how', which is important for these methods. Our almost two year old dog was trained by these methods by the authors and is a marvelous member of our family. Both our dog and we, I strongly believe, are happier because of this work. We were originally skeptical of the concept of the e-collar, but on the setting we use (4 out of 100) the stimulus is literally entirely and 100% imperceptible to us. Its part of a much larger technique that is totally grounded in positive reinforcement. Our dog is off leash and perfectly under control (even without the collar most often now) so often. I'm looking forward to many more years with her and give credit to much of that to Marc and the Brothers of New Skete.

I was very hesitant about using an e-collar and quite insecure about how to go about it once I decided that was the right choice for me.Having red the art of raising your puppy I was familiar with the author background.I can’t say whether an e collar is the right choice for you or not. But, if you are taking that step, this book will take you step by step.

This book is perfect easy to understand with well defined lesson outlines. The book teaches you how to use an e-collar with kindness and knowledge

A balanced and humble approach to training your dog that will get you results and more. Learn how to help you dog become a better companion and grow the bond between you your best friend. Marc and Brother Christopher helped me in all their books and as their approaches changed and adapted, so did mine. This new book has inspired me to take my dog training to a new level. Early in the book I was inspired to be better and felt supported. Thank you Brother Christopher and Marc for your humility and dedication to become better at educating our dogs while growing the bonds.

A bit too much about the people, etc behind it. Would have preferred more info on actual training.

Initially we bought the Kindle edition, we enjoyed it so much, we bought a hard copy too! This book teaches you how to use the ecollar as a communication device, in a very gentle, straight forward manner. Marc also has a Facebook group in relation to the book. Lots of support offered from him personally and the very knowledgeable members! Never once felt alone in our journey.Highly recommend for anyone interested in ecollar training!
