A "Smart" Meter? Pick A - B or C.
I chose to buy three of the Smart-B Multimeters because they will all be gifts to older homeowners who are not that well-versed in electrical dynamics. The "Smart-B" aspect of this meter is that you can test standard batteries more accurately because the meter places a load on the battery to give you a more accurate indication of the "juice" remaining in the battery. For example: the DC Volts of a brand new 1.5V AA battery read out at 1.58 volts; using the "Battery Load Test," the same battery read out at 1.39 volts. I had one of the three meters shipped directly to the recipient, so I was only able to check out the two that I received. In all functions the two multimeters produced identical readouts, and in comparison to my Fluke 87, any differences were negligible. The backlight on this meter is brilliant and awesomely useful. If you're getting a meter as a gift for a student, however, I'd be more inclined to get them a Smart-C model which would probably come in a lot more useful to them than the battery test function. A, B or C? It all depends on how you're going to be using it. For me, this multimeter is just right for the price. I like it! Oh! I almost forgot ... There's one modification I needed to do to get both meters I tested to perform to "my standards." I like INSTANT Readouts — like ... no waiting for the probes to make good contact. I took both ends of each test cable and used a dremel sanding brush to clean/polish both the probes and the connectors; after, I applied a thin coat of silicone WD-40, and wiped dry with a paper towel. See pics.

Excellent meter for the price
Excellent meter for the price. One test lead was bad and I had to use one of my old ones, but the meter works fine.

A nice meter.....
Accurate and easy to read. A keeper. I like the small size and the stand sits at a good angle on my workbench. I really like the battery tester function. The only problem, and a minor one at that, is that the knob is a bit hard to rotate. I have had no problems. I did not get this product free for review. I bought it with my own $$.

I cooked it
This was my first DVOM and it didn't take long to make the fatal error of not having it switched to the correct setting. I liked it but not being fused it's gone into the bin. And I doubt it was accurate enough to make the measurements required to determine things like parasitic draws. Since I've learned that it takes at least $50 and an accuracy of .1% for a good one.

Poor quality
One of four ordered did not work due to a faulty lead. I did not open the box for a month after receiving them because they were planned for my course at the university. I contacted the seller (soon after 1 month after receiving them) but received no reply. There was no other way to return the item through Amazon. If you order, test the multimeter as soon as you receive it.

Two Stars
This multimeter is unreliable. I think its part of the probes themselves.

Solidly built, good quality, nice buy
Please Note: I know nothing about electricity and bought this meter only to check the 3 batteries and alternator-output on my 28-foot sailboat. However, I can say that it's a very solidly built, well featured, easy-to-read instrument--far better quality than I expected at the price. The only thing it lacks is a storage case or pouch. Still, an excellent buy. Highly recommended.

This tester seems to be pretty heavy duty for the price
This tester seems to be pretty heavy duty for the price. It has the settings to test most residential and automotive electrical systems. So far, I really like it however, I've only had it a couple of weeks so I can't speak to it's longevity but if I only get a few years of use out of it, it will still be a good buy for me for what I paid for it.
