Great hat and fully adjustable. Very comfortable. I wear it for golf and for everyday. I love the OR gear and this is my second hat from them.

My wife and I take her students to CIMI or Catalina Island Marine Institute. I am of the Hispanic descent, and also have male pattern baldness. I have never had a problem with being burned by the sun until I visited Catalina Island. It was terrible my head face neck and especially my lips and nose. I had second degree burns around my lips and nose. So when I came home I knew something had to change. I did a little research and decided on the Outdoor Research Sun Bucket Hat. I can honestly say this hat is amazing. Its lightweight it floats in water it is both comfortable to wear, and stylish. Most importantly no more sunburn. I have taken to Catalina guess what no sunburn. In fact if I’m going to spend any time outdoors this hat is part of my wardrobe. I don’t know how Outdoor Research does this, but I feel like I sweat less, and stay cooler when wearing this hat. I love this hat it’s worth every penny.

It's a well-made nylon hat with the thought put into the design evident with the dark underside of the brim (to minimize glare reflection). Sizing runs a little big (I take 7-1/2 to 7-5/8 and the L fits right). It's important to come close because if you tighten the adjustment cord more than just a tad, it collapses the back end of the hat.

I've always loved hats but never looked good in them. When we moved onto our boat, it became urgently important to get some sun protection. I had a couple wide brim hats that weren't getting worn. I discovered bucket hats & ordering a "size" instead of "one size fits all." After reading reviews, and consulting the manufacturer's website, I ordered a medium. My first thought was it was slightly big, but the adjustment in the back quickly fixed it. I can cinch it down for a bike ride or loosen it up for walks. Also, the chin strap is lighter weight with a smaller fastener than other hats--a much appreciated feature that makes it less annoying. It will also fit behind the ears comfortably. Sunglasses fit under the brim without interfering. Best of all, I get excellent sun protection for my ears, moderate for my neck (combine with a buff for better coverage) and "better than nothing" face protection. I don't even mind grabbing it for a quick walk across the street. Highly recommend. I may add the Sombriolet for sunnier days (and give all the other hats away!)

I like this hat. It's my stand up paddle boarding and fishing hat. It's not as good at blocking the sun as my Mexican gardeners straw hat, but a ton more comfortable. It is extremely comfortable at that, very light. I'm kind of between sizes, I'm 7 1/4 and the sizes are seven and eighth and 7 1/2, so I ordered the large and it is indeed a little big for me, and as other reviewers have mentioned, the band does a good job tightening it as much as needed. So for the most part I can wear it without the chinstrap, but when I gets really windy, and it does, the chinstrap is nice and very light as well. I keep the chinstrap up inside the hat and forget it's there when not needed. And if it falls off, it floats. I got caught in the rain with it once, worked great for that as well. If I wore it around town, I think my wife would want to walk on the other side of the street, but for pure performance, this is an excellent buy.

Got the beige with gray trim and it looks great, more tailored than the floppy cotton hats. The adjustment cord in the back allows a small amount of cinching the fit but too much will cause wrinkling at the base. All in all this is a fine looking and constructed hat.

I had to reorder a Large and returned the Medium. I have thick hair and that made the difference. Wore it today and it's perfect. Like it much better than a baseball cap because the bucket has some neck protection, and the rim kept the sun out of my eyes, too. Finally have found a hat that covers all the bases without a super wide brim. 5 stars!

Love it, bought a large for myself. Got one for the wife also and she loves it as well. Fit great, comfortable and serves its purpose well.

I like hats. I'm always on the lookout for the perfect hat. I have hats from Tilley, Patagonia, Columbia, Lowe, Buff etc. This particular hat has the main advantage of being crushable, so easy to pack in a pocket. Fits nicely, with an adjustable bungee at the back, and a chin cord for when the wind seeks to part you from your hat. The brim is nicely angled, so provides a fair amount of shade. Negatives are... the cord stop at the back means it's not comfortable when lying back in a high backed chair, unless you turn the hat around, which, obviously, you can. More of a problem is that it gets very hot under the hat when out walking, resulting in a rainfall level of sweat coming down. Yes, I know, that's weird. I can't say I've experienced it with any other hat, so it's not me. So, in conclusion, a good everyday hat, but not for extended walking on a hot day, unless there's a nice breeze.

Works well to keep the sun away from my face and neck. Is vented, so as to be somewhat cooler than it might otherwise be. Workmanship is superior to the cheap hats you might find around. Serves it purpose well and I recommend it highly! KS

I have a number of hats by this brand. Not really available in the uk. Well worth seeking out.I more casual alternative to a tiley hat, it folds up very small. The chin pace is useful in wing. It comes of it it's not for you. Fit was spot on for my 62 cm head.
