Good text for contemplation
I am unable to judge the quality of this translation but for me the text had great life. I would think that any translation at all would offer insights of that which Dogen has taught is not so much the transcending of duality but rather the "realisation of duality" in a non-dual world. Quite a short text but a succession of terse verses that offer insight into "the way".

must have book
This book is a gem. If I had to pick one book to have as a guide on how to live life, this would be it. All the books I have ever read about self-improvement, insight, enlightenment, the spiritual path and how to live life are expressed here clearly and simply. I love this book so much that I have just ordered 2 more, so that I can have a copy with me wherever I am.This is also the best translation I have read.

Great read
The hsin-hsin ming, is a great little resource or reference for Zen practitioners or those wanting a taste of Zen to help try and understand the way. I enjoyed this short text and its wisdom and keep checking back on it from time to time

Brilliant.
Needs many readings. Though not something for a quick read. Worthwhile much pondering and contemplating again and again. Good translation.

Hi
The most wonderful piece of Zen writing I have ever read. A small ten pages or less poem beautifully translated, an absolute must buy for any aspiring Buddhist of any tradition.

Helpful for those on the path.
I first came across this little gem of a book in 2001, and I return to it often. It's a lovely translation, and for the serious practitioner, a useful pointer to the essence of Zen as a living practice. I have purchased several copies over the years to share with friends on the path. I hope you find it useful as well. Peace.

iPhone Unfriendly
This is a simple pointer of how to practice Chan.Unfortunately, the creators of the Kindle version did not check it on an iPhone or perhaps any smartphone. If you read this with the phone in portrait mode, the first letter and a half of the first word is chopped off. I have changed settings, but nothing fixes that problem. However, if you put the phone in landscape mode, it works fine. But that is very inconvenient and less of the text is available at one glance.Nonetheless, this is awesome book written by the Third Patriarch. It was written when Zen was simple and straightforward. When you find your practice is become work, read this poem.
