Here is how we installed it
So far we are VERY happy with this system but we've only had it a few weeks. We have about 2 acres - half woods and half yard, and rocks everywhere. Our very crafty border collie keeps digging under and finding little cracks near rocks to shimmy through. We needed a solution and this was it! First, note that some of the answers to the questions are WRONG - you MUST have the shock line in a complete loop. You can NOT use the twisted line to create a break in the shock to span a door, for example. The twisted line is so you can go from the unit on the wall to the shock line, but the yellow shock line MUST be a complete circle. I did not want it to go around the front of my house because if my dog got out, I don't want him shocked trying to come to the front door (which is what he usually does). To get around this issue, we ran the line up our rain spout, across the gutters (the manufacturer said the aluminum wouldn't be a problem), and across the ceiling of our screen porch. This way the entire back of the house is shock-free (unless he's climbing on the ceiling!). You could also run it through an attic, maybe a crawl space (depending on how deep it is and if you remove the collar when the dog is in the house) or even OVER the roof, I suppose. (It WILL shock through the floor or ceiling if the dog is within range.) I'm attaching photos for how we did it. We ran it around the yard and attached it to the welded wire fence with zip ties. The front of our property is wood privacy fence, so we got little plastic nail-in wire holders for that span (be very careful not to nail or damage the wire!). Then up and across for the no-shock zone. The yellow is the shock line and the red (see photo) is the twisted wire that goes from the control box (circled) to the shock line. It took us 2 days to complete it all with a million zip ties - we could have done it in one day if it wasn't so HOT outside. The flags are great and you should definitely use them even if attached to a physical fence -- follow the instructions in the package for training and don't rush it. Even the most stubborn dog will learn! We have the collar set to 7 feet (3.5 feet on either side of the line) and number 3 level shock. We both tried it on ourselves and it's annoying, but not painful. The collar it comes with does suck. Twist off the probs and remove it - then poke two holes in a collar of your choice and re-attach. We had to take off the long probes, anyway, to attach the shorter ones - so I just moved it to his regular collar then. He is a long haired border collie, but we groom frequently so his undercoat is thin. The shorter probes work much better for us - the long ones kept flipping up or down. i hope this helps! It just takes some thought on how to best install it in your situation. This was a GREAT solution to a big problem and we are thrilled!

Robust system, flimsy connection points
We got the pro extreme so that we could lay the wire on the ground without trenching. Time will tell how it holds up. We ran it through a wooden area and the process was easy. The spool got lighter as we worked our way down from 2000 yards. I like not having any splices in the whole run, will hopefully help with line integrity.I did use hooks into a tree at the starting point to ensure that the starting splice stays out of water / snow. The supplied silicon splice kits are really nice and great bonus. I used electrical tape as well, but had to remove it as it made it to thick to get into the splice kit.The only negative I have is that the attachment points on the ground kit and main control board are flimsy. Great gauge and protection on the wire and everything included in the kit, but then flimsy attachment points.Once hooked up we were obviously nervous if it would work. Several hours laying it out in the middle of winter and chipping down one road crossing... It worked like a charm though. Our dog has used a shock collar in the past as we tried to fix him running off (no success), so he knew what the signal meant immediately. So far three days without picking the dog up in the neighborhood and we are very happy with the system. Will see how above ground holds up with time and nervous about that, but so far so good

It works, but...
It is a lot of work getting the wire buried. And, it seems to work as advertised. However, it looks like the batteries are only available from the manufacturer. And, it doesn't stop my German Shepherd, when she sees a deer.
