Having had the pleasure of working closely with the (dearly-missed) Charles Kuralt, I had to chance to see first-hand this gifted journalist's genuine love and affection for the American people, and his appreciation for the unique characteristics (and wonderful stories) that make this such a special place. I purchased this copy to share with a friend who was planning a visit to New Orleans, and I love the way Mr. Kuralt captured that unique American city. He captures Key West beautifully too, and Charleston, and... Even with the ever-escalating pace of change, this book has held up wonderfully and is guaranteed to lift your spirits, and take to the road in search of fascinating and unique characters.

This book is for a nephew. I have read this book and really enjoyed it. I was ready to pack my bag and travel.This is a book that makes you want to travel, meet new people and learn about Americans. I recommend itto everyone who likes to travel.

Enjoyed Charles Muralt

I like Charles Kuralt's approach to people and places and especially the way he writes about them. This book is another set of travels to favorite places, one of them most dear to my heart. After reading that section first, I was sold.

I listen to this frequently whenever I feel the need to be inspired. I miss Charles Kuralt but thankfully, with recordings like this, I have his unique American voice to remind me of all good things in life. Only wish it was in a digital format.

Great book exploring human behavior —an anecdotal empirical look sans any psychological digressions—actions of people —real people

I really enjoyed it, the next best thing to coming to the USA and meeting locals. I wish I could do the same tour of the States
