Educational and Fun!
Our 4 year-old grandson loves this placemat! He has attended symphonies with his parents and is interested in different instruments and the sounds they make. The placemat gives a great overview of the different musical sections as well as more detail for study on the reverse side. Really cute graphics, too.

Both sides are great
The front shows children holding their instruments in the proper seating places for an orchestral performance. We like this because it shows how to hold the string, brass, and woodwind instruments, and even a few percussionists. The conductor is also pictured, facing away from the eater. On the back, it gets even better. The families of instruments are shown, plus whole notes, half notes, quarter notes (and a clapping exercise. The notes of the Treble Clef and Bass Clef are named.Great item. We also like this coloring book: Musical Instruments Coloring Book (Dover Design Coloring Books) Easy to clean, stiff shiny plastic lamination. Great item.

GREAT placemats
Love these placemats! We have a bunch. I always come back and specifically search for the Tot Talk brand. Durable, easy to clean and even my 10 year old still reads them and learns from them. I keep dry erase markers on the table when they have them and they really enjoy the activities.

great color chart for kids learning art
Very helpful for beginner artists learning primary, secondary, tertiary, complimentary colors. Bright vivid color print. Laminated hard board easy to view, easy to clean. I bought it for my 7-yrs-old's art lessons. Love it!

Inaccurate depictions of instruments
I was excited to get this mat for my 2 year old son as he has now memorized the presidents from His other mat. His father is a professional classical trumpeter and I purchased without running it by him first. Some of the instruments depicted are backwards. Like mirrored. Apparently there is no such thing as a left handed tuba but that is what is showing. On the backside several instruments are shown this way. The bass drum is the also wrong kind of bass drum, the kind used in a rock band, not a symphony orchestra. Finally, if the backside of the mat is really meant to be a music education tool, then it should be correct. They failed to use ledger lines outside of the music staff. So, if you are looking for something more accurate for education, those are really unfortunate mistakes and also would be so simple to check with any musician before printing these.
