BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN by Julia Quinn (Lyndon Sisters Book #2)
BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN is another oldie but goodie by JQ and was a re-read for me. It was originally published in 1997 and is the second of a two book series about the Lyndon Sisters. This is Eleanor's story and even though it didn't pull at my heartstrings like its predecessor, EVERYTHING AND THE MOON, I still really enjoyed it.I completely adored both Charles and Ellie too and thought they made a wonderful couple. Their story literally had me laughing from the start and and even all the mishaps these two encounter didn't detract from that humor. Quinn's customary charm and wit were definitely on display here as well.I did find it somewhat predictable however since many of the twists I'd already figured out beforehand. But regardless of that it was still without question a delightfully fun, romantic, and thoroughly engaging story. And even though it's not a favorite of mine, I'm glad I read it again nonetheless and would definitely recommend it too 😊

Really only 2 1/2
Obviously very early JQ. The dialogue is witty and amusing, that’s the 1/2 star. Charles is adorable, that’s worth a star. The rest is only 1 star. Boring, predictable, and completely without that beautiful sexual tension we love so much in her later, much better, books. I enjoy her books so much, I want to read them all. But you don’t have to. The first Lyndon sister is so bad it’s painful, and the second isn’t worth your time. Makes me wonder how she ever got published in the first place, much less created some of my favorite books. But, I’m thankful she did.

you’ll have to skip parts
Definitely had to skip pages in this one but it was cute. I did get a little weirded out by how often Charles would get angry and say he would throttle her or whatever. I just didn’t understand why she could tell deep down he was a great guy when she first met him, drunk. Maybe if they referenced that her brother-in-law spoke highly of him more often and not just based on a “feeling.” Etc but it’s a romance novel so they’re pretty unrealistic

One of Quinn's best
I realize this is one of Quinn's earlier books, but it's really one of her most outstanding. It's one of the better ones for this genre, thus my 4.5 star rating.Quinn's capacity for humor and dialogue is really apparent in this book. The book started on a humorous note, and the humor was really sustained throughout the book in a number of small ways. Charles and Ellie were engaging characters. I especially liked Ellie's realism; she was independent and headstrong, and that was supported by her personal history. It was clear why she would act the way she did.Charles was not quite a rake; there was definitely something softer about him, but he required reforming nonetheless. Prior to this, Anthony Bridgerton was my favorite Quinn hero, but I think Charles now holds that title. He was just naughty enough, just smart enough, just clever enough, just serious enough, and just fun enough - the perfect package. His problems weren't overwhelming or depressing; they were just problems, and he dealt with them.My one problem - it was overwhelmingly predictable. I had the solutions to the few plot problems figured out long in advance of when the characters solved them. This is not to say that they weren't written well because they were - the problem is really that they were so obvious; there was very little mystery. Overlook that aspect of the story, and you still have a charming, funny, and engaging read that should stand out for this genre of writing.

Quirky and funny! Different from the usual Julia Quinn
Different than other books by Julia Quinn in my opinion. I had to constantly remind myself that she was the author. None the less, I enjoyed it. Both the Hero and then Heroine are very emotional. It took a bit to get used to the overdramatic relationship they shared, but it worked. Good job Julia!

Not "so brighter" after all
It makes me truly sad to give a two star review to a book written by my favorite author, but i honestly felt discontent with this book. BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN, appears to have been written by a rookie in the genre, and not by an author who brought us wonderful stories like THE DUKE AND I, THE VISCOUNT WHO LOVED ME, AND ROMANCING MISTER BRIDGERTON. I finished the book just because it was a Julia Quinn's piece, but i have never been so disappointed with a story before. The main character, Ellie, was an annoying girl, she appeared angry through out the whole book, and Charles just never really stood out. Ellie wanted to have her way (no highway option) all the time, and Charles just wanted to have sex (plain and simple). The story line, was very dull, nothing to look forward to, also i must mention something another fellow reviewer wrote about, what is up with them getting injured in every chapter? my goodness how annoying it got.!!!!!! I love Julia's writing, i think it's superb, no wonder she is my favorite, which is why i would put this book where i may never see it again.

Good enough!
Light, quick read. Quinn has the formula down pat. I liked the story very much even though I had guessed the storyline from the curicle accident minus the correct villain.

Great fun
This book is so much fun. The relationship between Allie and Charles is quick and funny. You must love them. The things that happen to them are a bit too much but that does not take from the fun you have reading the book.

Loved it!
This is the second book in the Lyndon Sisters duet and in this one Eleanor takes centre stage. She is out for a walk when Charles, Earl of Billington falls into her life. He falls out of a tree, lands on her and soon has a surprising proposal for her. He must find a wife and Eleanor, known more as Ellie, needs to escape her stepmother.Their marriage is one of convenience only. Ellie is too strong and smart to fall for a man like Charles. But he has decided he will make her like him.I really enjoyed the first book but honestly I think I prefer this one. I like how strong willed Ellie is, and the sparring between her and Charles is so fun to read. The other characters in this book are a great mix and I loved reading the interactions Ellie has with them as she tries to navigate life as the new Countess. There is a steamy scene or two but I'm sure most romance readers will be fine with that. This can be read without reading Everything and the Moon, as Ellie is a smaller character in that and its in this story that we really get to know her properly.I've throughly enjoyed both books in this duet, and I hope one day the author decides to revisit the lives of Ellie and Charles, and Victoria and Robert.

A marriage of convenience
This is the second in the London series but both books stand alone. In this book, an Earl literally falls at the feet of Elinor Lyndon and proposes marriage the same day. He is proposing a marriage of convenience so he can keep his inheritance if he is married by his 30th birthday. Ellie has reasons of her own for agreeing to this but they both have very hot tempers! Ellie struggles in her role as countess and believes she is being sabotaged but no one believes her. Later on, things rake a more sinister turn.I really enjoyed it but was obviously in the mood for it. Ellie and Charles make constant threats to kill each other, strangle each other etc etc but it is all in good humor and we know isn't serious. The path to true love does not run smoothly at all for these two... but I liked them both a lot. This is a very light read and not to be taken seriously if you want to enjoy it!

No disappointment once again
Julia Quinn never ceases to amaze me.Whatever the subject matter involved in creating her characters it gathers quickly into believable people and therefore wherever she takes us we follow her story line from page to page. It’s all over too quickly, yet there is a teaser in her Epilogue leaving one’s mind to revolve into her world as far as we can go.Read on !

Very Pretty, but No Plot and No Suspense
This is really poor effort. Both the bride and groom suffer a series of accidents and sabotage . They carry on obliviously despite the culprits being so obvious that they might as well have "guilty" written across their foreheads .I was puzzled how a teenager could make a whole orangery die and decay in few hours as I did not how such a ninny could access herbicides before they had been invented. There is far too much butter frosting in the book for me (anachronistic, sickly-sweet and lacking bite).

Worth Reading
Charles Wycombe, Earl of Billington, needs a wife before his thirtieth birthday or he'll lose his fortune. Ellie Lyndon need a way out before her soon-to-be new stepmother marries her off to the village idiot. It's a marriage of convenience plot I which the two of them find love after they are wed. Not as good as Quinn's later novels, but still worth reading.
