Tom's of Maine Long-Lasting Aluminum-Free Natural Deodorant for Women, Soothing Calendula 2.25oz. (Packaging May Vary) , 6 Count (Pack of 1)

The key to starting to use any natural deodorant is to make it through the initial stinky phase. When I first stopped using deodorant/antiperspirant, I smelled really bad for about a week or so. I have heard that your body needs to expel all of the toxins that had been built up through clogged pores caused by antiperspirant. This deodorant has a nice scent and works well. I have use the calendula, which is my favorite, and the lavender, which is a bit too flowery for me. I don't like the beautiful earth scent.

This is the only deodorant that smells good and doesn't leave that gross, itchy, cakey residue under your arms...you know, the residue that you can't even scrub off in the shower...blech. I live this stuff. Yeah, you'll have to apply more than once a day, but I'd gladly deal with that if it means no residue. This aluminum-free type of deodorant isn't great if you also need an anti-perspiration, but I don't sweat too much, so that's not a factor for me.

I started using this product / scent in 1998, when I was in my early 20's and noticed that other deodorants and anti-perspirants were causing painful rashes on my underarms. Once I found that this product worked, and I didn't get the rashes, I gave absolutely no thought to changing over the years.I always bought this product at my local co-op or Whole Foods. However, in the past few years, I've noticed that other scents have become available at Target, Wal-Mart, etc. I tried Lemongrass and Mountain Spring, both of which are noted as "long lasting" and discovered that I felt like I had more BO with those two scents. I did some research and discovered that they are different formulations with different ingredients. I make no judgement on which is more "natural" or "healthy", but I do make judgement on the effectiveness: the Calendula is much more effective than the newer scents / formulations.I am a very active person: I play tennis, ride my bike and do a lot of yoga. Of course I sweat because it is only a deodorant but that is fine because I smell lovely when I do it. And I sweat a lot but this holds up and I'm never self-conscious about my sweat with it.I highly recommend Tom's of Maine Calendula and would recommend that anyone considering Tom's try this formulation over the others. It has worked for me!

For some reason, many of the stores that carry Tom's deodorant do not carry the Calendula fragrance. This has been my husband's go-to deodorant for well over 10 years. There was a funny Facebook thread recently about how Tom's deodorant does not work, but sincerely, it does the job - except after very vigorous exercise. And we like to avoid 'antiperspirant' since it's a bit controversial what the aluminum in it may be doing to the body as it gets absorbed. We've been Tom's users for almost 20 years. Personally, i prefer the roll on/ liquid toms in the citrus fragrance for myself, but this is good too. And super convenient on Prime to just order and have it delivered a couple of days later so you don't have to hunt around at every local store for it.

I've been using this scent for over 10 yrars and now is no longer sold in stores. Glad I'm able to find it here at least. Not sure why Tom's feminized it though as it's very nongender of a scent. Big mistake.

Love the smell and that nothing bad is in it!

Both my wife and I use this deodorant (I use the unscented version), and love it. We purchased a 6-pack of this particular scent for my wife, and I buy multi-packs of the unscented when I'm running out of my supply. We simply wouldn't bother switching brands unless Tom's changes their formulation - these work very, very well. And they last.

I've used this deodorant for almost 20 years. As of today I will be searching for a better alternative. The new version still smells nice and I don't have any issues with irritation, but the odor fighting isn't as effective as it once was (I think they probably reduced the calendula content). The sticks are slightly smaller now I think, and they recently hiked to price. When buying in bulk (pack of 6) It's currently $5.50 per stick, which only lasts me about 2 weeks. This is way too expensive.This is what happens when conglomerates buy smaller companies - eventually they squeeze all the profit margin out that they can by reducing the quality of ingredients or increasing price. I'd rather support one of the other new natural product companies going forward since the value here is poor now.Tip for those who have irritation: after showering use a natural, fragrance-free lotion on your pits first and let that dry before applying. It could be that you are just having chafing issues which used to be better managed by the previous formula of this deodorant. I personally use Alba Very Emollient which works well for me.

Good stuff but increasingly difficult to find. Even this product wasn't the clear roll on herb scented I used to be able to buy and it disn';t stand up to a stressed 15 hour day on Tuesday so I;'ll have to keep looking.
