Lucifer Omnibus 2: The Sandman Universe Classics

Stellar conclusion to a stellar series!
I trusted Carey and Gross et al to stick the Morningstar's landing... and they did spectacularly! Even though others continued Lucifer's story in subsequent volumes, this serves as a brutal and poignant end to an epic chapter of the Morningstar's life. Great extras, a bonus story not previously reprinted, and a sturdy build round out a beautiful book.Minor damage to the dust jacket and a dented corner kept this at 4 stars but Lucifer is definitely a 5 star story!

"Omnipotence is a great burden. And eternity is a very long time."
Lucifer Omnibus Vol.2 weighs in at a hefty 6 1/2 pounds - the book is a monster - but well worth every ounce. This picks up where Vol. 1 left off (starting with issue 36) continuing through the remainder of the Mike Carey series. The artwork is stunning - its always interesting to see how different artists interpret and create the same character. The story line is complex - and convoluted. The plot of the second half of the series is focused on Armageddon: God has left heaven and as a result all of creation is beginning to erode and implode. Chaos reigns. Yet (as we saw in omnibus 1) there is more than one creation - which complicates the narrative arc. The inclusion of a number of other pantheons, notions of the afterlife and associated planes of existence is on one hand, clever - but it also muddies the waters in terms of the end of creation quite a bit. It took some effort to keep the many story line of characters straight as a result.Carey resolves this with a deus ex machina (pardon the pun) that also neatly relates to characters and events from omnibus 1. What really clinches a five-star review, though, was Carey's underlying theme: that we (like Lucifer) seek - and indeed are - masters of our fate. Any Hell that exists is of our own making, much as with all the other planes of existence that are being snuffed out, and that ultimately, the Prime Mover isn't terribly interested in anything at all. It is a fantastic conclusion to an epic story and an brilliant re-imagining of age-old tropes. Well worth the cost.

Good Binding!
My copy arrived quickly, but unfortunately only in a padded envelope. Consequently one of the corners was banged up, and there was a gash in one of the sides. But no matter, we all know that things don’t need to be perfect to be beautiful. Most importantly, the binding is great, sewn in and glued, and much more flexible than my copy of Lucifer Omnibus Vol 1. As you can see in the photo, after “breaking it in” once, there is a nice eye in the spine.(Hardcover books like this should be “broken in”, so the spine doesn’t crack. You can look up how to do it on youtube.)

Take in the knowledge of the book for what it is nothing less or more
I'm a be truthful in order to read this book you have to have a strong mind and the power of discernment, this book gives you the biblical portrayal of Satan himself and when you read between the lines, you see the power Satan has upon this world of confusing the population he is a antihero and not a villain, like the saying goes know thy enemy and this book will illustrate the power the enemy has.

Another OK read.
Once again, this is more like a 2.5 star. It's alright, but once again didn't grab me like the rest of the Sandman universe.
