Buy one of these every time you buy a new car.
Fits on the non-GDI 2.4L Theta II engine oil pan of my 6-speed base model 2011 Kia Sorento that sees mostly highway miles and rarely sees rough terrain. Therefore, there should be no issue fitting this item on any Theta II vehicle made by Kia Hyundai unless restricted by the surrounding structure. Of the many valves offered by Fumoto, I picked this one specifically and perhaps arbitrarily because I searched Amazon for “M14 1.5 oil drain valve”. It would behoove potential buyers to know that Fumoto offers many M14 1.5 valves, and they should shop around more than I did in order to choose a model that is most appropriate for their vehicle. Fumoto has a tool on their homepage that allows users to see appropriate models based on the vehicle they drive.I change the oil on my car religiously every 3000 miles. Inevitably, the aluminum pan stripped out on me at 130k miles, and I had a bad problem with the bolt leaking oil. After installing a Time-sert in the pan, I decided to buy an oil drain valve. I chose this over another German model with a magnetic cap because this one is a ball-valve that opens completely and would allow incidental solid contaminants to flow through, which was favorable after drilling the pan to install a Time-sert. Also, I find German quality to be spotty nowadays, where as this piece is of Japanese (not Chinese!) construction, which I whole-heartedly trust. After installing, it still leaked, but I determined this was due to the angle at which I installed the Time-sert rather than a fault with the Fumoto valve. To remedy this, I used (against the manufacturer’s recommendations) Permatex’s The Right Stuff on both sides of the blue fibrous gasket that the Fumoto valve came with (NOT on the threads), hand tightened it and then crescent-tightened another quarter turn, and this solved the issue. There is now no reason that I should ever have to remove this valve. The first thing to note is how appropriate this valve is for my Sorento. The Theta II oil pan hole is about 15 degrees offset from horizontal (that is to say it is mostly horizontal). The L-shape of this valve will allow the oil to travel directly downward. As I intend to use it without a hose attachment, this will help keep my oil changes less messy. The L-pipe spins around freely when loosened by the nut, and I have placed it in an upward position until the next oil change. I found a Fumoto cap separately on Amazon to cover it so dirt does not enter.Construction: The body of this piece is solid brass construction, with a steel ball-in-plastic-joint valve controlled by what appears to be a stainless lever. I am confident that corrosion will never be an issue. The lever sits snugly in place, locked in a notch by a spring, until lifted by a single finger and moved to the side to open the valve. I am confident that accidental opening of this lever is not going to be an issue, but Fumoto does sell a plastic lever clip to secure the lever in place and offer piece of mind. The L-pipe is removable, and I would venture to guess that you could switch it out with other attachments from Fumoto before or after installing on a vehicle if-desired. The L-pipe is designed to fit a hose attachment if so desired. Theoretically, one could drain AND fill through this valve with the proper pump, but I can’t imagine why one would want to. The valve does not leak from any of its moving parts or from the pipe when in the off position. The lever moves easily enough that I might have my grandmother do my oil changes from now on. I didn’t measure this before installing it, but the original drain bolt for my vehicle was 16 or 17mm long, and I believe this valve was more along the lines of 12-14ish mm (rough estimates). It is M14 with a 1.5 thread pitch, not coarse threaded. It comes with a blue fibrous gasket that should be soaked with oil before installation. The valve on this is positioned before the detachable L-pipe, so that if the L-pipe were to be lost, the valve would still function and oil would not be lost.Issues: The only issue I can foresee is that the valve juts out to the rear from the pan about 2.5 inches (1cm below the pan also due to the angle of the threads), and if something were to strike the valve from underneath the vehicle, it might have enough leverage on the pan to cause damage that would warrant repair to the vehicle. Needless to say, opossums will now be hitting my tires instead of being given the chance to pass under my vehicle. I will NOT be driving my vehicle in rough terrain after the installation of this. If you drive a vehicle lower to the ground than a standard SUV, or if you drive in rough terrain, you should buy a shorter valve offered by Fumoto. If you drive through tall grass or anything that might catch onto the lever, you should buy the lever clip that Fumoto offers. Again, it does seem that Fumoto offers many different designs of this valve that could mitigate this risk for just about any vehicle, and perhaps I could have found a more appropriate model for my Sorento. Conclusion: If I could do everything all over again, I would have installed a Fumoto valve when I first bought my Sorento. This would have saved my oil pan from having to be repaired. All cars nowadays come with aluminum oil pans, and the threads, at some point or another, will become damaged on these pans. Every single vehicle on the road needs one of these, in my opinion, and I just wish I had found it sooner. Whenever you buy a new car, look up the correct valve on Fumoto’s site and buy it, because that is exactly what I’ll be doing from now on.This is a completely independent review.

Fastest oil change
I got these on a 06 4runner, 07 honda crv, 14 chevy volt. I love these things, my oil changes are fast and easy. No mess.... So easy my 10 year old son uses this product, he drains the oil for me and I just change the filter and add oil. I've been using this product for 3 years and no issues with this product. I also purchased one for my mother's jeep. Great quality. I highly recommend.

Convenient & low profile.
After initial Lube Oil drain, installed, tested for any leakage. None found. Easy to turn drain pipe to an angle that I find impossible to make external contact to prevent failure.

No Mess Oil Change
This valve will eliminate oil change mess trying to get a pan under the oil pan. Makes the oil change mush faster.

Does not fit the Honda Ridgeline.
I was so disappointed that the valve does not fit my 2019 Honda Ridgeline despite the company's website saying it does. The threads are the appropriate size, but because the drain hole is recessed a li'l bit, the entire assembly will not fit. Now I'll hafta buy a special adapter for it and wait until the next oil change.

Something I needed.
The towing base plates under my Suzuki obstructed the oil drain plug so this valve was a must for performing oil changes. It hangs down quite a ways but the tow parts act like a skid plate to protect it. Fumoto valves are well built and I have one on my truck, too. They drain slower than stock but there’s also no mess.

2017 6.7 Powerstroke
Works good on my powerstroke since the drain plug is horizontal... little slow draining but gives time to change filters, grease, and checkover while draining

Makes oil changes much easier and cleaner.
These are well made and make oil changes easier and cleaner. Rated only 4 star because it was not clear when ordering that the plastic safety clip was not included. That is $12 extra and has been back ordered for months. I have another one of these on a Ford and love it. The F106/F316 has a very common thread that fits models of VW, Ford, Mercedes, Honda. The "L" designates the bend in the drain tube. This is essential for some applications.
