Fresh recounting of a classic
If you tried the original Bunyan version, and failed to make it the whole way through, take the journey again with Gary Schmidt. You'll have a much better opportunity to reach the Celestial City.

Beautiful
This was a wonderful read aloud for my 11, 8, and 5 year old kids. We read it slowly over several months, just a few pages at a time, though they always begged for more. They were caught up in the story, and I was often moved by the nuances of the adaptor. (Gary Schmidt is a family favorite.) I love the beautiful Moser illustrations too, which often carried a depth that took some time to understand. We often talked about the paintings and why Moser might have interpreted the story the way he did. This adaptation is of high artistic quality.

Perfect Condition & a Must-Read for all
The book arrived in perfect condition with a hand-written note from the seller of how it is a joy to sell books for a living. I know it is a chaotic time for many of us with the current COVID-19 situation, but I am very much looking forward to this read. Though I am an adult, I have bought this version for myself and am more than excited to begin this journey. I wish that everyone who picks up this book will take something away, and you can trust me when I say I 100% recommend this seller. Best wishes!

Every child should read this book!
I choose this book by viewing the pages in the Preview of the book on the book's page. I am glad because I saw the map which was *extremely* helpful in drawing the picture in my sons' head. The physical aspect of the books is great: strong bind, strong pages, create illustrations and bright paper. The book is for 9+ but I am reading to my sons' who are less than half that. It goes without saying that they know Christ so they get the message. I liked the map to the chapters in Skylanders.... hey I need them to focus on a book that is geared to a 3rd grader. It is a classic and something that every child needs.

Great summary and artwork
My 5th grade son and I both love this book. Schmidt did a great job of translating/summarizing this important book. In the introduction Schmidt explains why he wanted to make this copy of the book. He uses common vocabulary, so that older elementary students can understand a lot of it. Parents still need to read it with their children to explain some of the accounts in Pilgrim's progress. As a Christian parent, I think it is great that my son is already learning about the challenges he may face as a Christian. It's started discussions about hardships Christians have faced in the past and still face today. The illustrator made beautiful paintings to accompany the book.

more readable but still feels like a classic
I read the unabridged original about 5 years ago and bought this one recently to read to my kids. It gets the points across, using many of the places and names you'd expect (including the Slough of Despond, Faithful, Apollyon) but without the language that makes the original hard for modern readers to understand. I have not compared the two to see what is left out, but the new one seems shorter. All in all, a valuable contribution for making this important allegory more accessible.

LESS IS....LESS
I bought copies for each of my children's families but my second thoughts are that I felt this was to light in comparison to the rich depth of the original. The Children's version that I had tried to get ( PP. in Modern English Jean Watson, Peter Wayne published by Zondervan and Scripture Press in 1978) was no longer available. The art and illustrations in that wonderful version well made up for the abridged nature of a Children's version. I wish they would re-publish this version. Of course the full volume in it's original language or even the modern English version is best for teen and adults.I am a visual learner and treasure good graphics....these were just okay.

Great for children
I am reading this book to my grandchildren and they are entirely caught up in the drama unfolding with the youngest studying the map at the beginning to see how far Christian has gone. The language is very readable and easy to understand.

I liked the look of this
I liked the look of this, but it was a present, so cant really give a proper review. I thought the standardof production was worth the money
