Asafoetida is essentially a type of edible gum resin. This is genuine, pungent smelling block of asafoetida.Plus:Just adding a pinch to a cup of lentils is more than enough.Unlike compounded asafoetida which contains starch powder as an additive, this is 100% pure.Minus:It is pretty difficult to wrench a pinch of asafoetida out of the block as it is tough and sticky.Others:What I found interesting was that it kind of thaws and takes up the shape of the container in summer.Edit1: Bought it again. Feel one can better benefit from Ayurvedic qualities of hing when used in this form.
