Pylex10555 Adjustable Helical Post Black - 10 Pack

I used these to put in a low raised wooden base for a shed in my backyard in a climate zone 5a/b area with lots of clay and rock in my soil.As a novice at using something like this, they were ok. Difficult to keep straight, as I had trouble keeping the rebar itself straight while driving it in. I put these in about 20ft away from a maple tree, and while I dodged the major roots, it seems like I still ran into some smaller roots while putting these in. If it got stuck I would hit the top of a 2x4 piece resting in the saddle with a short sledge hammer, and then try to screw them in with a 8ft 2x4. This worked really well even in my midwestern clay riddled soil. I was able to put 4 in mostly by myself.I would highly recommend a SDS plus rotary hammer, and a ground stake driving bit for the rotary hammer. It made driving in the rebar a super simple operation. I used a corded Bosch bulldog and that was more than adequate to drive in the 4ft rebar I purchased.I would absolutely use these again to put in a freestanding low deck, and I would consider using them to put in more of a raised one as well, as long as it was detached. If you are doing anything attached, I think getting proper concrete piers is going to be a better option, or maybe something more professional that requires large machinery to install.

I think 30% of deck and foundation contractors would love to know these exist. I'm thrilled.
