Gosh, that's comfortable
I bought this to replace an old thermarest that wasn't holding air anymore. My old one was only an inch thick, but inflated easily and was pretty durable. I expect this one to be similar, except it inflates thicker.Oh my goodness, does the extra inch ever make a difference! I'm usually a side sleeper, but I always have to sleep on my back whilst camping. I think I was actually able to sleep on my side on this pad, but even on my back it's really comfortable. The quality seems high, it packs nice and small. I'm pretty happy so far. If it's even half as durable as my last one, this is a great product.

Nice backpacking pad, just wish it was a bit thicker.
This is a nice backpacking sleeping pad. I needed a new one and broke this one in on a six day backpacking trip along the Pacific Crest Trail in northern California. It was light weight, easy to inflate, and not a bad sleeping pad for the price. I would buy this product again.

So Far So Good
The 3.8 R Value is actually a legit ASTM rated value and good for most people through all four seasons, provided you have a proper tent and sleeping bag and don't try to sleep in your panties. Klymit's advertised 4.4 R Value on it's most popular pad is marketing BS and it's actual ASTM rated R Value is a pitiful (and pointless) 1.9. Cost difference: Minimal to equal. At 2.5" thick my 6' ~200lb body can't fully compress it, even laying on my side. That's awesome.Has a nice compression sack.USA-made, err, "built" with US and global materials. Good enough.Heavy material, so it's tough. Also doesn't sound like a rubber pool float when you move around on it.Cons:* It's skinny. Usable, but skinny. At least it's light.* "Self-inflating" pretty much means you have to inflate it yourSELF. It'll puff up a little bit on it's own, but still takes 10-15 deep breaths to fully inflate it. No surprise there, though.* Slides around on the tent floor more than other pads I've used, even other Therm-a-Rest pads.Final thoughts: Money well spent and so much better than it's most popular competitor. There's some complaints about the baffles blowing and forming a bulge, but I haven't had that problem. Not yet, at least, and I have to wonder how many of those complaints are due to manufacturing defects and how many to people trying to double or triple it over and use it for a sit pad.... or having sex on it and pounding the crap out of it.

A great balance
I bought this for backpacking trips. I had one of the ultra-light blow up kind and it was loud and not all that comfortable. I was looking for something that was comfortable, not bulky to pack, and not terribly heavy. I was also, trying to balance this all with price.I was amazed at how much more comfortable this was and feel it is worth the weight for a good night's sleep. I love it!

Deflates, leaks air
I bought a couple of these, a regular size and a large size. Both of them came looking as brand new. Neither of them held air overnight. Misery at a high price.

Lighter and thicker than they were in the past.
Replaced a 20 year old therm-a-rest pad with this new one. Hopefully they are still made to the same standards. This one is lighter, thicker when inflated, and smaller when packed.

Approaching age 50, it was time to splurge.
A friend convinced me that I'll really notice a difference in sleeping in a tent with a therma rest. And he was right. I bought this $40 off regular price through Amazon warehouse. It is easy to inflate and deflate, my body stays off the ground when sleeping, it is fairly quiet, and my dog stepped on it and didn't puncture it. I would recommend not inflating it fully, as it is a bit more comfortable with a bit less air as it contoured my body better. This rolls up very small and will work well for a Boundary Waters trip, or a backyard camping adventure. Very, very pleased with this purchase and can't wait to sleep on it again. Unless the weather is nice and I sleep in my hammock instead :).

Good quality, poor mechanics
I’ve purchased 2 of these pads. One worked perfectly, while the other had a leaky fill valve. It would not self seal during inflation as intended. I replaced the leaky pad with a new one. The new one arrived with a leaky valve as well. 2/3 of the pads I received had leaky valves out of the box. I’m giving it 3 stars because when it worked, it was phenomenal. However, for my experience, they’re only 33% reliable.

As advertised
This is a review of a first test in the local park. Will update once tested in the field in the following temperature range: 5-20C.Now... Dimensions first: I am 5'8" (178.cm) and weigh 185 lbs (85 kg). So I got the R size. I also got the Thermarest Questar 32F/0C down sleeping bag to be able to strap it onto the pad.So far, product build is quality. I haven't found any defects. The valve technology they use seems great. Really easy to use. Also really easy to inflate by mouth. I don't have a pump bag etc...What leaves me confused is that I was under the impression this was a self-inflating pad. However, upon unrolling it and opening the valve, nothing happened. I had to start inflating it by mouth. No big deal as it is very easy to do so. Perhaps after storing it according to ThermaRest's specs, it will self-inflate a little.Color is great and fabric feel is wonderfully smooth and soft. With the discount, it is a no-brainer buy. I also have a ThermaRest Z Lite SOL R=2 sleeping pad, which comes in handy as a first layer beneath this air pad to protect it from abrasion when sleeping on stony ground. ThermaRest doesn't recommend putting the air pad directly on to top of hard and abrasive surface, which makes sense because you can see that the fabric is not designed to withstand repeated shuffling to and fro over gravel or stones. Over the years, if you use it like this, you probably will wear the fabric thin or even puncture it. But It am not saying it looks or feels that fragile. It is not. It's gonna last you years. It's just if you don't want the hassle of repairing it, put either a blanket, tarp, or another foam pad under it.That last thing to keep in mind, size-wise, is that it fits me perfectly but with no room to spare left or right. Also, my legs spread out when I sleep and this means that from mid-calf, my leg touches the groud and it s not on the pad as the latter tapers significantly in that region. This is one of the reasons I decided to pair it with a sleeping bag from ThermaRest as well. Their sleeping bags come with straps that will keep the pad in place. And the legs being trapped in a sleeping bag that tapers like the air pad, I figured this is an issue that will go away, that is to say, the lower half of your legs will be aligned by the sleeping bad withing the same surface as.the air pad. Will test later and edit this review. In any case, I am satisfied with my purchase and both items from ThermaRest seem quality built. So go for it! If you don't like it, Amazon has a return policy anyways.

Praktisk
Gillade att den var så kompakt, har den i båten då jag får ont i ryggen utan madrass.Man blåser upp den mera manuellt.

Comfy sleeping pad
I’ve had a Thermarest 1” 3/4 length self inflating pad for 20 years and it’s still going strong. However , as I get older comfort is a bigger priority. I’d looked at some of the air mattresses on the market but was worried about the reference to how noisy some are. Also like the idea of self inflating plus a couple of puffs to finish. Really pleased with the purchase. Easy to inflate, really comfortable. As I sleep warm it’ll do me all year round. Light weight and compact enough for backpacking or cycle touring. I also like the new valve system which makes topping it up and adjusting the support really easy. Probably not the answer for the ultra light brigade but perfect for everyone else. My only criticism is that for this price point a temp repair kit should be included not an extra.
