overall directions for making gem quilts, need basic quilting knowledge

I've been thinking about trying to make a gem wall hanging. This book is a good book to use as your guide. The technique seems intricate however the author takes you through the steps. Haven't made it yet, however, have been gathering fabric.

I was rather disappointed in how many pages are spent taking about gems from a gemology point of view. After all that reading I still don't think I am prepared to create a gemstone quilt. I don't see me using this much.

Beautiful designs for hand dyed fabrics. Color use to show depth and contrast are well demonstrated. Well written.

Detailed history of the artist's journey and development. Lovely photos and interesting descriptions of painting fabrics and image manipulation techniques. This book provides many hints for developing you own image. BUT not the quilt patterns.

More of a " How to create a pattern" book. Kudos to the designer for their works. I am not interested in creating these patterns. I was interested in creating a project from the designers patterns. I will try to return this.

Difficult to follow

Super how-to book from International quilter. Many patterns of her famous jewel quilts.

This book is obviously written for those who want to study technicalities and make nothing but gemstone quilts for the rest of their lives. Seriously.I wish I'd just bought the pattern set, will donate this to my local library.Thank goodness I also bought the Gemology book, the competition - simpler patterns with as much, if not more, impact. I'll be leaving that one a fantastic review!
