Just my cup of tea, so pleased to have found, wonderful escapism
I am up to date with the story, and really enjoyed everything I read. I dont rehash what I read (not a book report here), but just my overall impression. Fun thing about reading, what we choose and enjoy is highly subjective. Something you love, I may fine stupid. Something I love you may not be able to handle. Whatever. Give something a try and move on.The Levelling Up series was not something I expected to like. I had learned of this book on a random FB sponsored ad. I dont recall what drew me to it, but let me tell you none of this is my typical genre to read from. I think it was the appeal of reading of a character in her 40s. I'm in my 40s. Nice to see the main star to be someone outside the typical 20 something. Figured I'd give it a go, and if I didnt like it I have the option to stop, yes?The first chapter was meh. Though, I tend to be a little snarfy when I first begin a new book. Takes a little to get into it. But then once it started rolling, I was so very much hooked. I think once I realized that the writer can write, can flesh out detail, can give life to not only main characters, but give a lot to side characters, and I can imagine the surroundings so well yet am not spoon fed all everything. I was impressed, and hoked. I cant get enough, I could read from this world forever more. Love the characters, all the fun quirky details, and the lovely boost to my imagination. If you aren't reading KF Breene, you should. Very funny, lots of wonderful side characters, and the main story has some meat. But I could read all about the Levelling Up world without any story line. I just LOVE hanging out with all the characters. Funny stuff, hot stuff, some feels. Not overlly dramatic. And not at all scary despite some freaky stuff going on.And yes, there are ridiculously hot guys in this, with cringey names (I suspect it is an intentional nod toward the lame romantic tripe of so called romance books). Stop clutching your pearls long enough to just enjoy this. It's a slow burn, and please feel free to enjoy it. OR dont pick up a fantasy (on many levels) book.If the details in this book freak you out, then you wont be able to handle the intense spice of some of her other work. Ruin of Roses, comes to mind. That is another incredible story with loads of detail, awesome side characters, but the heat is turned way way way up. Wowza. Well done.. mm hhmmm

Fun, magical, light romance
Enjoyable “coming of (middle) age” book in a series that is filled with quirky characters and magical adventures. This book celebrates all the power of a woman who is finding herself in the prime of her life.

Glad I kept faith in Breene
I wrote a review of the first book in this series, stating that while the story was different, a nice change of pace, oddly for this author it wasn't quite gripping. But I know this author's writings well, I knew if I kept reading I would get that must turn the page feeling of a truly gripping story sooner or later. The first book I could put down at any time but this second book I had to know what was on the next page every time. Breene had hooked me again, it just took a little bit longer than usual.Breene has a sense of humor that really shines in her writing but in the first book I found the humor a little... on the back burner. But that's understandable as the story was being set up, it was the first book after all. Thankfully in this second book the humor is back in full force and I can't get enough of it, as usual.I'm excited to read more. Although I do still think Breene's A Ruin of Roses has a better story. A Ruin of Roses to me feels even more unique than this series. So when the last book of Ruin of Roses comes out, which is very soon, I will put reading this series on pause. So far I have loved all of Breene's series I have read, and I will probably never find one I don't like. I highly recommend this author, her sense of humor has a bite to it that I can't get enough of. And somehow she's always able to make her humor feel fresh and not at all redundant, which is a mark of a truly great author. In this series, I'm eager to find out if the doll room ever gets torched and if anymore characters show up that push the boundaries of wierd. I'm ready to devour book 3, thanks again for the fun Breene!

Sexy midlife, but not old age
KF Breene has some amazing paragraphs about what women in their 40s are capable of and how we need to support ourselves and believe in ourselves. The story was sexy and fun. Still, I found Jacinta's lack of understanding about people older than her to be annoying rather than entertaining. For the most part, the humour was not mine. And the author repeated several phrases and metaphors a bit much for my taste (yes, we know you are grabbing life by the balls. Got that. Yes, you were a mother, you can do the impossible. Got it. Yes, you was to burn the dolls. Still.) Overall, however, I tried to not let those issues bug me and I did enjoy the book.

I Didn't Want To Stop Listening!
I'm already a fan of K. F. Breene's books and her writing style. Her stories tick every box for me; intelligent writing style that's easy to read, main characters with depth of personality that I can root for and believe in, depth of character in the supporting cast, believable background story and setting and a balanced mix of relationship, tension, action, humour and mystery.Hollie Jackson is a wonderful narrator. Her performance while reading this book brought the story to life. I liked the pace at which she read and the emotions she conveyed. There are some very unique characters in this book (series), and the voices she created for them all were impressive. Their personality shone through. Hollie transported me into each and every scene. As a menopausal woman within spitting distance of the big 5-0, I love that this series has an older protagonist and supporting characters. Jes is a woman who's comfortable in her own skin and has the confidence of life experience behind her. However, as everyone knows, life is about change and it is how we deal with it that grows us as a person. I love how Jes is growing, how she dealt with the situations in this book, and how she's learning.Magical Midlife Dating builds on the first book. The threads running through the series and the ones that began and ended in this book were enthralling. I loved listening to Jess stumble through her online dating experience. I rallied, laughed, cried and swooned with her.Due to the graphic nature of some of the more violent scenes, I would recommend this book to adults who aren't offended by this sort of thing. But if you enjoy a sort of second coming-of-age for older, independent, capable heroines and strong alpha heroes, with a generous helping of banter, humour and realistic issues for the over 40s within a paranormal adventure, then this book may be your next favourite read. It's certainly left me wanting to read the next book - Magical Midlife Invasion - and check out the other books available in the Paranormal Women's Fiction (PWF) genre.

Great second book!
The first book was already great and the second book surpassed it easily. Totally in love with the oddity of it all and very impatient for the third installment 😁
