Sharp general purpose lens
Not a fast lens but light weight and sharp. I needed to lighten my load and combining this with my EOS R8 did the trick. Excellent value for the money.

happy with it ..
I am not a pixel/lens analyser .. is it as good as my Nikon Lenses.. yeah I would say so .. weights less .. have it on my Canon RP , coming from Nikon D750 .... now got In Eye-Autofocus .. , works pretty good ..also love the 85mm for Portraits of my grand children..

Good, practical walk around lens.
At a fraction the cost of the f4 version, this is a no-nonsense budget zoom that's a great option for an every day walk around lens. Images are sharp, no real issues to speak of, AF is fast, stabilization works well, and it's even pretty light weight. Like all compromises it has upsides and downsides, but honestly, if you know the difference between this and the f4 version, you know you aren't getting L glass, and should expect L glass. The reality is for the price, this is a great little lens.

Very good kit lens
The 24-105mm range is useful and on a Canon APS-C body...not so much, where it's roughly equivalent to a 39-168mm range. Sharp optics for a kit lens. Image stabilization works very well. The dim maximum aperture range of F4.0-7.1 is likely why this lens is "inexpensive"...but Canon has made kit lenses brighter than this in the past. Why is this one so dim? Overall, though, it's a good kit lens.

Second one works fine (Beware Amazon's Shipping)
I ordered this lens to go with my Canon EOS R5 as I could not obtain an EF-RF adapter. I also needed a lens in this focal length. The first one arrived DOA. I kept getting an error message. I even called Canon Technical support and was unable to get the lens to work. The item was returned for replacement. (See below about Amazon's shipping)I likely will not buy another Canon product from Amazon. Canon does not seal their boxes and my replacement from Amazon was shipped in the original box and left at my doorstep, I am only buying from a trusted vendor from now on (most canon prices are consistent across brands). Now, to compare this lens.I think it is a great lens for the price. I really needed a lens in this focal length for some of the projects I do, notably for long exposure images, I prefer the lighter weight and smaller profile of this lens. This lens is complementing my RF 100-500mm lens that is a superior lens at the 100mm focal length. That is an expensive lens. If I were not able to obtain the RF 100-500 as a complement or a 70-200. I would chose the Canon RF 24-240mm lens instead. I feel it performs comparably to this lens in the same focal range, but gives you a little higher performance at the 70-105mm range due to a lower aperture. I also would appreciate the extra 100+mm of zoom it affords. The next question is, how does this stack up to the RF 24-105mm f4 L? I would say decently. I tried both, the more expensive lens does have better image quality and more versatility at the higher focal legnth. I do a lot of telephoto work (wildlife, etc.) and decided to go with the cheaper F4-7.1 version here over the L-series lens due mainly to the price. I feel image quality is still excellent with the F4-7.1. Unless you need a lot of very low light, weather sealing, and uncompromising quality, I think you will be happy with the F4-7.1.
