Norpro Porcelain Gravy Sauce Boat with Stand and Candle

Very large and sturdy gravy boat. We did our own test for temperature using water. With one tea candle the temp was 112. I wanted it warmer to prepare for Thanksgiving meal. We placed 2 tea candles inside and the temp was 131 after 30 minutes. The two candles had plenty of space to work. It certainly looks pretty on the table.

I bought this because I was tired of having cold gravy with my Thanksgiving "2nds". It works incredibly well. I wish I took a temperature reading but my gravy stayed piping hot for the entire Thanksgiving dinner. All of my family commented how nice it looked and how hot it kept the gravy. It comes with a smaller tea light but I found if you use a normal sized tea light and let it burn for about an hour ahead of time (tea lights burn for about 4 hours), it burns down enough that it won't burn the gravy. No need to buy special tea lights for this. Overall I'm very happy with how well it worked!

Excellent way to serve gravy or sauce and keep it hot!

Not sure why I didn't try to find one of these things before. For past holiday dinners, I've tried different options to keep the gravy warm as long as possible. Heating the gravy boat ahead of time didn't help much. A small thermal carafe helped some, but sort of stuck out like a sore thumb among the rest of the elegant holiday dishware. The simple design of this off-white porcelain piece is nondescript enough to just blend in with the rest of the table settings.The one design element flaw, in my opinion, is that the pedestal of the gravy boat and the support of the warming stand are oval rather than round. This means that when the gravy is being passed around the table you have to "line up" the oval base of the gravy boat with the warming stand in order to safely rest it back in place. A round base would be so much easier...simply set it down at any angle on the warming base. Doesn't seem like a big deal, but at times it's awkward to fit the two pieces back together while seated at the table. Also, while the handle of the gravy boat doesn't become too warm to handle, the bottom of the gravy boat becomes quite hot. This only became an issue when someone was passing the gravy and forgot and placed their other hand under the bottom to steady it. Still, all in all, the very best part is no more jumping up from the table to keep reheating the gravy.I also use this for desserts that involve a topping of warmed sauce (chocolate, caramel, hot rum sauce, etc). It's ideal for buffet style serving for larger get-togethers. That way, guests can serve themselves their dessert whenever they feel like it (including going back for seconds!)...and I'm not stuck in the kitchen preparing plate after plate of desserts.I did trim the wick to a shorter length before lighting.

I have been a searching for a great gravy boat that also keeps the gravy warm and I have found it! Just a simple small candle to keep the gravy warm for the whole thanksgiving meal. Can’t wait to use it every thanksgiving!

So I bought two of these since they were so affordable, you know, one for beef gravy and one for chicken gravy. Anywho they work as advertised, hold quite a bit of gravy and have a classic clean look.However, do not use regular tea lights to heat the gravy. Would end up getting too hot. I had a hard time immediately finding replacement mini tea lights. I eventually found "mini traveling candles".
