Fun Series
I haven't read other series that are similar yet to this one, so for me it was a fun read. I see reviews that say this is similar to other ones, I can't attest to that. My review is for the overall series not just the book.I rarely read a series from start to finish if it's more than 3-5 books. Around book 4 or 5 is when I tend to get bored. Maybe that's because the main character is the same or the storyline starts to fall apart and change. At either rate, I immensely enjoyed this series, the strong characters, the overarching storyline, the development of all characters and relationships, and the just right amount of length of each grouping of storylines before it was all pulled together for the finale. I'm actually in awe of how quickly I read this entire series and how much I continued to enjoy it from start to finish. This one will be a hard series to top in my favorites. I like Breene's take on the Supernatural and all the characters involved. I rooted for them, laughed a lot, couldn't put my book down, and even cried. There were some parts that were repetitious whether descriptions or storyline, but I overlooked some of that knowing it was to remind the readers of things if they weren't reading the books one after the other. I definitely recommend reading this series.

Interesting take on the supernaturals
I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump lately, reading a lot of contemporary romances, so I decided to find an urban fantasy in kindle unlimited as a palate cleanser. This book really did the trick for me.Things I liked:The book did a pretty good job of keeping my attention, which is harder than it seems sometimes. I loved Reagan. I mean she’s a great urban fantasy heroine, she’s strong, she is confident in herself, she’s sassy, has great humor, and especially in this book is independent and not in need of a man. Darius, our vampire hero is an interesting character but you don’t get a lot of background into him, it feels like in this book this is just an introduction to Darius and we will learn more later. I liked the plot to the book, it was an interesting mystery/bounty, and we got the first glimpses of all the supernaturals in this world. I liked some of the other cast of characters as well. Reagan has funny neighbors, the mages she is introduced to are both helpful and hilarious. I really liked that Reagan had a secret she is trying to protect, although to be fair I did guess it on my own, but still it worked for her character.Things I didn’t like:There was a lot of world building in this first book and it sometimes got a little bit on the tedious side. The supernaturals in this book don’t necessarily follow some of the “standard” rules/hierarchy so it’s important to keep up with the all the information and it did occasionally get confusing. I do wish I had seen more of Darius in this book, just because we don’t necessarily get to know him very well at all even though it’s clear he’s going to be important in the future. Other than that I don’t really have any other complaints. It was a solid first book in the series.

Did go over my expectations
I did not think I would enjoy this book as much as I did. Trough out the whole book there is constantly funny comments being made. It has an really interesting twist on what the FMC is, and the MMC is her perfect opposite. If you like fantasy with some good and fun action, a sassy FMC and a world building that is told as the story progresses, you will love this book.

Meet Reagan, crazy supernatural bounty hunter extraordinaire with a super rare blend of magic
Meet Reagan, supernatural bounty hunter extraordinaire with a super rare blend of magic. Who also reaaaaalllly needs to bring her mark in so she can get paid and get some decent ac going in her rented house. All of which was going according to plan... until an elder vampire (and a seriously hot one too) just came up and took her mark and as such, her pay check. Yeah, that's not going over well. Now Darius has the balls to request her aid? Sure he will pay her an insane amount of money and give her a house... but he's still a vampire. He took one mark away from her, who says he wont screw her over again? And then there is the teensy weensy secret of her magic that if word got out, would spell a whole new level of trouble for our kick ass bounty hunter. My take on the book:The snark is strong in this one... I enjoyed it!Weirdly enough, its only when writing this review that I noticed things were lacking in the book.Character development was decent. We met the players, we got a some info about Reagan and that's pretty much it. Her mother died, but I don't think we found out how, she works in the bounty hunting business but we don't know how she got there, she has no papers but is able to rent a house (while I guess that should be possible in some case when paying cash or so... but still!). We got next to no info about Darius, other that he's an elder vampire with good taste in his home decoration. Yeah, so that was lacking.Reagan is also certifiably crazy, rushing off without thinking things through. Her thoughts and ramblings befit a teenager rather than an adult woman. The plot and the world building were great, enough descriptions (but none too boring) to keep me immersed in the created world.Pacing was good, we had a lot of action going on and it didn't feel rushed at all. There were (as far as I can tell) no errors and there is no sex in this book (though we have a scene with a naked Darius) if that is important to you.All in all, I really enjoyed reading the book, but once it was finished I kept thinking back to the things it lacked. So while not wholly convinced, book 2 is in my TBR pile... lets hope it brings me around! :)
