Sony MDRRF985RK RF Wireless Stereo Headphones + DB Tech Digital to Analog Audio Converter For TVs with a Digital Optical Output

The headphones have good clear sound but there are a few things to be aware of before purchasing. The transmitter is very sensitive to interference. It shows up as an incessant chattering in the earpieces. I have had real difficulty in finding a location without interference, and if I turn my head even a little it returns and makes the headphones unusable. I have used them with 2 different TVs and my desktop and encountered the same problem. turning off the TV and just using the computer doesn't fix it, neither does the reverse Very, very frustrating. Secondly, the headphones fit very tightly, so tightly they become uncomfortable to wear very long, but that is because I have a large head. Third, the ad doesn't mention it but the digital to analog converter ships separately. I had to contact the merchant after the headphones arrived without the converter to find this out. They shipped it after some communication and it arrived quickly. The seller was courteous and resolved the problem without argument. Lastly, it was clear that the Sony box had been opened a number of times, as evidenced by wear. I don't know what to attribute this to, perhaps reconditioning or a just simple return. In any event, the headphones work fine. Just know you will have to find a Sony dealer who can replace the rechargeable battery when it wears out so you might be without the headphones for a while if it has to be mailed out. I would have rated this higher if not for the issue with the converter and the wear on the box

I just purchased this product from Amazon. In reading the description of "Sony 150 Expanded Long Range..." I thought these were better than the Sony MDRRF985RK wireless headset selling for $73.99 (today on Amazon) and some $4 less at our club discount store. So, I made the Amazon purchase and I also bought the $69.99 ones at our club store.Upon receipt I thought I would compare the sound, range, etc. Will, I didn't even plug in the Amazon ones selling for twice as much as they are in fact the same, MDRRF985RK wireless headset. Normal list price is $109.99, but as I mentioned they can be purchase for a lot less. The Amazon "bundle" includes a dbTech Digital to Analog converter ($29.99 in prime) for TVs without an analog converter. OK, now I understand the bundle description. Amazon's description with "Expanded Long Range" makes it sound like these are a better headset when in fact they are the same product. Amazon's price for the MDRRF985RK is $73.99, add in the $29.99 converter (if you really need it) and this totals $103.98 if purchased separately, which is a lot less than the $139.95 Amazon wants for the bundle. I should add that I have returned this "bundle" to Amazon and will now purchase another headset by itself as the sound is very good compared to my old Advent wireless headset. Additionally, changing frequencies with the auto-tune is great. The volume adjuster is somewhat difficult to locate, but a spot of hot-glue nearby will solve this concern.Oh, about the "expanded" 150' range. This is the normal, typical range for the MDRRF985RK. Which I found not to be the case in my house as I moved from room to room. However, in the same room with the transmitter they work great, even near my wireless PC and phones. Hence, the 3-star rating.

I bought this as a replacement for a similar, 5+ year old, model that has seen better days. This model is superior to the earlier model in terms of sound quality, range, and noise rejection.It uses the same frequency as the prior model, and is compatible with it. The ability to use either headset with either transmitter was a great surprise and a very positive feature. If you're buying this as a replacement don't discard any old components.Comfort is about the same as the prior model, if not very slightly worse. Still, it is very comfortable.One really annoying feature is that the top band, that goes over the head, has a tendency to slip in either direction (forwards or back) if you are doing anything that involves head movement. Once it fell to the floor, from a sitting position, and still worked. So a little caution is called for, but a rare bump might not damage the headset.

Headphones are comfortable. Were bought because my husband has significant hearing loss and had to have the volume on TV turned up as far as it would go. He has used these for about 2 weeks and they work great. He is now able to hear TV and movies and I can watch at a normal level at the same time. I paid a little extra because I thought I would need the digital converter that was included. I could use it on both of our digital TV's but turns out I didn't need it. If your TV has red/white audio out or 3.5 mm headphone port, you are good. Please note - if you want to listen via headphones and through the TV speakers at the same time, and if you have satellite/cable box, the red/white will need to plug into the back of the cable box (or other component). I used these briefly myself to test the sound and I thought the quality was great. Would recommend to others.

The wireless headphones worked fine on my analog connections but not the digital to analog audio converter from my digital audio output on my cable box. I think it has to do with the signal from the cable box digital audio output which has digital dolby of which it doesn't work with the converter. When I purchased this, it never said that the converter wasn't compatible if your digital audio had a digital dolby audio stream. I tried to change the audio settings on my cable box and it still didn't work. I am going to try to use the digital audio output from the back of my Sony LCD Digital Color Bravia TV. This means I have to take the TV which is hung on my wall which is a pain. If this doesn't work, I will try to use the analog audio outputs from the back of the TV and with cable extensions to reach the wireless headphone transmitter. If the converter would have worked, it would have saved my a lot of time and troubleshooting.

For those whoes TV partners have good hearing while you do not, this is a way for you both to enjoy TV together. Low TV vol for one and headphones for the hearing impaired. Sony Tech said it could not be done i.e. you can not have main speakers and headphones work together, but, this US based "Joe's Forum" provided the solution. Also available for other digital TV's. I split the optical output - one to sound bar and the other to the headphone via the converter. Headphones comfortable and you can wander around the house and still hear clearly - great for music lovers having to do other things.

I wasn't very impressed with this product for the price I expected better quality. First off the long range wireless capabilities is the best feature of this product. Setting it up via phono or audio jack had a terrible sound and with static interference. Then I use the digital audio converter and plug it to the tv digital audio and the sound quality improved a lot but still wasn't very loud and has poor base sound as well. Overall is satisfactory but like I said I was hoping for better quality sound which it doesn't have it.
