FTCE Reading K-12

I ordered this book to help me study for the FTCE Reading K-12 test. This book is divided into 9 competencies. In each competency, you are provided with information, charts, test tips, and quick tips. There is also a glossary of terms and a "Good Words and Phrases" page at the very back of the book. At the end of each competency, you get a 10 question quiz on what you just studied. This lets you know how well you are learning the material as you go along. The answers and explanations for each question are also provided. At the end of the book, you get the 120 question practice test. The answers and explanations for each question are also provided. In all, you get 210 practice questions to prepare you for the FTCE test! As I studied each competency, I highlighted key points, wrote notes, and reviewed the questions that I got wrong. When I took the practice test last night, I only got 12 questions wrong! I took the official test today and passed!!! So, did this book help? Definitely! I felt that the book refreshed my memory on things that I had learned in college years ago and provided some additional information on current teaching practices. The information was broken down into small chunks and was relatively easy to comprehend. There were a few typos in the book, however, it didn't take away from the overall message. I would like to add that this was the only resource that I used to study. I would recommend this book to anyone that needs to pass this test! This would also be a good resource to keep in your professional teaching library. :)

I took the Reading K-12 test twice. The first time, I went in with just my knowledge of reading. I had taken some of the reading endorsement classes provided by my county thinking it would be enough to help me pass. Big mistake.I decided to purchase this book because I've used NavaEd resources in the past for other tests and I was able to pass those other exams first time around with their study guides. The Reading K-12 test incorporates a bit more than what you may see in this book; however, if you study and remember the tips given in the book, you should be fine. Just make sure to spend the time studying the material in the book, take the practice tests, and you will pass.

I started reading this book one week before my exam...big mistake! Should have done so earlier. Most of what I read showed similar scenarios to what I saw on the exam. Unfortunately I didn't pass. However, I am going to study early and redo this exam. I know I will pass. Had I studied 3 weeks before the test, I know that I would have passed! Excellent resource!

I gave this study book a 4/5 stars because no book will ever be perfect. Also, test takers should never depend on one study source when taking tests that range from $150 to $200 dollars. However, this book was nearly perfect because I felt it covered all of the necessary material to pass the exam. I liked how the information was condensed and got straight to the point. Perfect for people who are trying to study while working as a teacher! Remember passing as quickly as you can is all that matters when your job security depends on it. Despite this being my primary study source,I still searched the web for practice questions to give me extra confidence a few days before the test. Just with this book alone I was able to easily answer online questions correctly. There were a few that I had to spend time thinking about, but that is expected. To make a long story short, I passed on my first try and was relieved when I saw my unofficial pass score! Hard work and dedication pays off.

After I didn’t pass the first exam. I bought this book and passed my second time.

Took the test today and passed! This study guide helped but may need additional resources. Dont expect to find everything on the test in this book but it did cover a significant amount of information. Overall a good study guide I have no regret.

I studied this book for two weeks before taking the reading test and I passed! Lots of great notes and practice tests to help you get use to the real test.

This study guide may not be enough to be ready for the Florida reading K-12 exam. I did pass the first time, but this wasn't my only resource. I do like the way the book is organized by competencies and each chapter drills down to the skills for that competency. The test questions also give you a good feel for what is actually on the exam. There are some major typos in the table of contents, though. Each chapter covers a specific competency and chapters 5, 6, and 7 all have the same title in my edition, although the skills are the right ones for those competencies. In summary, this book may not cover everything you need to know if you aren't an experienced elementary teacher and you want to pass the first time.
