A Response to Watts 08/08/20 Review
WATTS - 8th Aug 2020I don't tend to do reviews, but I really like this book and well done to the author. Like some have said I'd like more stories in there as that would be super powerful, but the colour depiction of Japheth is huge and has allowed for many conversations I can have with my kids today. The reason I'm actually writing this review, is to specifically respond to the WATTS review on the 8th August 2020. I think it's really important that if you get chance (and haven't already), that you read the Book of Enoch. Noah was not a white man, he was a Black man...but an Albino black man. And when you read the story of him it's actually quite terrifying, because his Dad think's he's one of the offspring from the fallen angels that is talked about in Genesis before the flood, and is terrified of him and runs away from his birth when he sees him. You could probably imagine it today as a Black man, being presented with a child that looks 100% like you features wise, but is completely what you may deem to be the "wrong" colour you were expecting.By embracing this truth about Noah, you give yourself the opportunity to have a really in-depth conversation with your kids about Angels, Demons, Albinos, Blacks, Whites, the works. Now for some parents I guess this may not be a journey we'd want to go down and that I get...but recognise the power of the truth of the depiction of Noah in this book and what it means for understanding the times we are in now; as in the Days of Noah.Shalom one and all :o)

God send
Really enjoyed this book and read it to my 4 and 7 yr old boys. My boys were full of intelligent questions and could further understand why the stories move from Africa and beyond. On a personal level, it makes so much sense to me, especially as a black woman and mum, to depict the characters from the bible with native characteristics i.e. they look like they are from the locations described. I appreciated the historical and geographical principle applied as well as the family tree element - this added to the understanding of who beget who and how the various families of the world relate. My only suggestion would be to add a reference to where each story can be located in the actual bible (i.e. verse/ chapter), so that (if you want to), you can expand and/ or read it to your child(ren) in more detail.

A must for every black home with children
My daughter loved reading this. It generated a lot of good questions which led to great dialogue about who we are. Such a positive and more accurate illustration of the bible. The illustrations are bold and beautiful and the text is easy to read.
