This book has taken over
my classroom. One of my students brought it in earlier in the year and shared a bit about it with the class. I bought a copy for the library, and it has been a hit. It's a good balance of action and suspense with three complex characters.

In comparison, the coronavirus is no big deal
I read this book in a day. It's a great thriller, full of frightening surprises and exciting escapes. The main characters are relatable teens dealing with broken relationships and teenage stuff until a mysterious rain covers the land. The rain is followed by black grass growing incredibly fast all over town (and the world). The grass isn't the worst of it, though, but I won't spoil anything. As the terror increases, so do the mysteries surrounding the three main characters and the sudden changes they are experiencing. It's a combination that makes the book hard to put down. Really fun. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

Good read says a teen
My 13yr. Old had to read and write an assignment for her summer reading and chose this book. She gave it a 4 1/2 over all and said she is looking forward to reading the conclusion in the future.

great start to a fun book series.
A fun book full of mystery and panic as the world crumbles. The pacing is good, I like the characters.

Must add for upper elementary and middle school
Kenneth Oppel is a master of the middle-grade page-turner, his new series starting with this book is for sure going to rivet many readers. While it hits a little close to home right now, I think this tale of an invasion on Earth will be one that will bring readers back for more #pernillerecommends

Fast paced and exciting teen adventure
Oppel’s smooth style makes this rather unlikely story a very enjoyable read: I had a hard time putting it down!

incredible!!
at 35 years old i am definitely not the target audience for this book. i came across it by accident, it was a recommendation from amazon based on one of my previous searches and i was intrigued (i believe absolutely that there's life on other planets). so once the final book was released i bought the trilogy. i've just finished the first book and wow! it was epic! it just flowed beautifully. there were no moments where my attention started to wander, no moments when the plot started to flag. this is easily the best book i've read this year and i would recommend it to everyone. now, if you'll excuse me, i need to go and read the next book in the trilogy. and then i need to read the next one. and then , most likely , i need to go back to book one and start it all over again.

Another great read from Kenneth Oppel
Another great read from Kenneth Oppel. His characters are creative and yet relatable, the situation is dire, and the action never stops. And lucky us -- there are two more in the series!

One of the best books I've read in ages
I loved this book and will be reading it to my year 6 class in September. If you enjoyed The Boy in the Tower, you will love this one as the theme is very similar but I would say this one is more suitable for slightly older children. It has just the right level of gruesome detail that appeals to children without being too scary. The ending is satisfying but sets the reader up for the sequel which hasn't come out yet.
