Mitchell Abrasives 53 Round Abrasive Cord, Aluminum Oxide 180 Grit .040" Diameter x 25 Feet

The string guide holes in my electric guitar developed sharp edges and was causing strings to break (while performing on stage). I passed the abrasive cord through the holes and by running it back and forth, I was able to round off the sharp edges restoring the smooth guide surface. This saved me almost $150 not to having to buy a replacement part. Nice.

After years of having StewMac and similar rave about using this for nut and bridge detailing, now I'm fairly certain folks were just looking for some sponsorship money. I'm pretty much going to leave the same review for all of the sizes I ordered because they all have the same problem. As you can see in the pics, this runs considerably smaller than advertised. It should be stated that they run +/- 20% on tolerance, because that's what I've found. This one is too small and has caused me a ton of binding issues in saddles and nuts. There are spots on the cord that touch .032". Most of the measurements were not even close to .040". Also, the material flakes off and dulls quite easily. I paid decent money for this roll. Should have ignored the hype and just bought a new file. Would last me a couple decades better than this will. I'll use it up, but definitely not on my guitar work.

Excellent product. Helps me working on guitars, and other projects.

Worked well for worn sewing machine components.
