The book "Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive the Bus" (2003) is a bestselling second-person narrative in which readers are asked (instructed) to keep a small bird from his chosen pastime of driving a bus. The reader is not given a choice as to whether to carry out this mandate, nor provided with the reasoning behind it. One is simply taken step-by-step through the process of forbidding the pigeon, and at each juncture expected to internalize the logic of her commanders. The book has become a successful ideological tool in the manufacture of obedience. Disguised beneath upbeat imagery and seemingly benign intent, the book’s ultimate function is to turn children dim-witted and servile, perfect prey for the despots and demagogues of their generation. Yet things need not be this way. Little children won't get it
Don't get this for children. They love the predictable pattern of the Pigeon books and can't understand the point of the parody. Adults will smile but my grandchildren just look bewildered. A bit heavy handed even for adults - a good point, but overplayed.

Underhanded political information masked as a kids book
This is not a children’s book. This is political and uses terms not for kids. This not how to give examples to kids about following the rules and the original Pigeon book created should take you to court. Your implying this this is a book from their series and it’s not. At the very end of the book it has information that is not appropriate for a child my sons age! It’s supposed to be a kids book, not a history or political lesson!

Not for children
DO NOT get this book if you intend to read it to children. The images are so close if not crossing over the line of copyright from Mo Willems artwork. . While the cover looks like it is about the beloved Pigeon by Willems, it is most definitely not. The marketing font artwork everything about this book. Looks like it’s going to be from Mo Willems. Children are going to want to pick it up. In fact I found this book by searching back to school books for elementary. It is disgustingly about not cooperating with society and even makes a reference to Mo Williems as Stalin in the back of the book. An adult reading this book of their own volition is one thing, but marketing it in a place where teachers and students and parents are going to get books for their children is ridiculous. I’ve not seen this book in any bookstores yet, but I sincerely hope that it is not going to be placed in the children’s section along with other Mo, Willems and pigeon books.

If you want to raise ethical human beings then this book is a must
Instead of teaching kids to blindly obey authority this book encourages them to ask why, and to focus on what is ethical as opposed to what is demanded. This is a book for children and adults.

Not truly a children's book but amazing
Absolutely love this book, hilariously funny and the point is makes is spot on. I'm expecting my first child in a month and I'm looking forward to trying to read this book to him daily. It's a parody book and as many here says you should look up the author reading the book on YouTube before you purchase as it is not part of the actual terrible authoritarian book series that for some reason people like. Feel like you might have to skip past some words and I do think it would have been ideal if nathan made some of the sentences a little simpler so it could be used as a true children's book. But looking forward to raising an inquisitive child ready to explore the world and question authority!
