The media could not be loaded. This GemOro portable scale is super helpful and very accurate! I've always wanted a scale for weighing gold and jewelry. I'm glad I chose this scale because it consistently performs well and looks great sitting out with its sleek design. The best feature is the self-leveling feet.I fully believe this scale is a great value!

This is a decent portable scale, designed for weighing items up to 1kg. I particularly liked the calibration option. To check the calibration you will need to order a 200g and 400g calibrated weight set and follow the instructions provided with the scale. The battery operation is a nice feature - it can conveniently be moved around the workspace. If you wish to power it from household current, you will need to order a separate plug/converter attachment from the manufacturer. It is not included. My main criticism is the uncertain accuracy of the scale at the low end. Although it reads to .1g, the manufacturer does not indicate the lower limit of accuracy. The readout tended to drift when weighing items less than .5g and it is probably not accurate at that range. For small items less than a few grams, use a smaller jewelers scale and check the accuracy. I wouldn't use it for small precious stones.

Just out of the box, the instructions said to just turn it on, but nothing happened. Supposedly batteries are included, but when I gently opened the battery compartment underneath, 2 of them flew out, while the other 2 remained in position. Easy fix there- just verified the polarity & with all batteries now in place, & the cover restored, the scale popped right on with the touch of the button. This scale has a tiny green bubble on the top so you can make sure it's level- cool! I proceeded to verify the accuracy with the nickel trick (a U.S. nickel weighs exactly 5 grams) & it's ready to go. (The instruction book described a calibration procedure using a special 2 gram wt. that is not included & which they'll happily sell you separately, which is certainly not very convenient.) I've had a similarly-sized office scale (Sunbeam) for many years just for my occasional use, & this one will send that one into retirement. This one has more options too. If you're not a fan of using batteries (they are wasteful, after all) this one will also operate with an adapter, but that too is sold separately. I cannot find any place in the small instruction book that gives the maximum weight this is suited for- my old scale suggested that 5 lbs. was the limit so I'd imagine this one would be similar, but they really should specify so you don't accidentally damage the scale. This one has more options, including a sweet counting feature. Just one caution here: this is described for use in any professional setting, including a jewelers, but in the included instructional pamphlet, it says "not legal for trade" so bear that in mind. Also, it's recommended to only be used between 50-86* F. (or 10-30* C). Personally, I will use this to make sure the envelopes I mail have the correct postage so I don't have to run to the post office, or to weigh small light packages or foods, or to weigh one of my snakes to calculate a medication dosage- I've been into herpetology for many years. So far, I'm well-pleased with this new scale- it does everything I need & then some.

This scale had some pretty bad reviews so I was a bit skeptical about ordering it, & decided to make up my own mind & test it. I'm glad I did.To start this scale is a lot heavier than anticipated. I think it weighs 8 or 10 ounces but that's a guess.It came in a nice box which was well padded to protect it in shipping.Out of the box, one of the batteries was installed with reverse polarity, so it would not turn on. Easy to fix that.I like the fact that the stainless steel platform cover is so easily removable (it just lifts off) because that makes it easy to clean. Also it has a tiny bubble level and the four feet can be screwed in or out to make it level. A nice feature fo sure.Once turned on it stabilizes quickly and the display is pretty easy to read.Since I demand accuracy in a scale of this type my next job was to check the accuracy.Since I do not own a set of standard weights, I used what I had at hand to do that. I used regular US nickles, which the US Mint says they weigh exactly 5.000 grams. (Yes to three decimal places.)I discovered that some of them (the older ones) only weighed in at 4.9 grams.But the newer ones came in at 5 grams.That might be a lame test of accuracy but I think it's pretty reliable. It also exactly matches the weight as measured on another precision scale I have, nickle by nickle.The multiple modes are useful to me as sometimes I want to weigh by ounces or grains and this scale does that and more. That is really handy for my needs.It comes with a small pamphlet with complete instructions.So... Unless something goes sideways in the long term, I will stand on my 5 star rating and recommend it to you.As always, this in an honest and unbiased review.
