Our Team Issue Level 1 glove is constructed with a sturdy CarbonX lined genuine leather palm and backed with a comfortable top layer of fire-retardant CarbonX stretch-knit with SFI Level 1 protection. The wide leather cuff allows for easy entry and a fit you can trust when the heat is on. Meets or exceeds SFI 3.3/1 specifications.

PALM is Fire / Heat resistant too!
It's not clearly evident that there IS CarbonX on the Palm too! Just a FYI for those of you like me who bought these to take suppressors / silencers off firearms (when they're still warm - NOT like flaming glowing red hot of course!). The description doesn't really lay this out 100% but the card it came with does so I've attached those images.Beyond that I've barely used these, just wanted to spread the above news as I was worried about melting/burning off the palms of these if they were ONLY leather (which it seems to be leather WITH CarbonX). 4 stars because these are very expensive for work gloves, and my past 4 or 5 pairs of regular Mechanix gloves held up like crap to normal house repair type work (like literally the 3-packs from Home Depot/Lowes for half the price hold up better).

Pit approved for the hot jobs
I'm on pit (fuel) for an endurance team as well as tire changer for our "long" stops. Last year, on our scheduled stop (tires, brake pads) I had normal gloves and damn near burned my fingers off -- so when I saw these as a way to not get burned and they worked. It was 95+ all 3 days (ambient 102 during one of the races), so a good place to test them. This year, we had an unscheduled stop, the car came in directly from the track into our paddock and we swapped tires - these gloves got it done. I had no problem pulling wheels off or handling the burning lug nuts from hell. I never even noticed.Another crew member has since stolen my 2nd pair, "you're not getting these back" - I don't blame him. (He was on the other side of the car, doing the same job)

but so far so good. I work in rubber extrusion
I haven't had these long, but so far so good. I work in rubber extrusion. Rubber that's going though hot air ovens at 700 degrees +. The rubber itself is around 400 degrees. I grab this line of rubber after it goes through these ovens, and walk it to another conveyor which then cools it. This step takes on average 1 minute. With these gloves, I can feel heat but it's nothing intolerable. The rubber starts off going though a jet air blower oven that can go up to 900 degrees. I have to be able to thread the rubber through that hot air for a split second to continue onto the other ovens. Again, I can feel the heat but it's nothing intolerable for the short time I'm in that heat. Also the gloves do not catch fire in that jet air. Where other gloves have. So these gloves are working as intended. Allowing me to handle very hot things for short amounts of time, and didn't catch fire. The other thing that I like about these gloves it the dexterity. They aren't overly bulky, and allow me to pick up small objects, press small buttons, and handle tools with them on. It's too soon to tell how durable they really are though. I'm hoping these will last me at least 6 months in my conditions and abuse. I've tried several "heat resistant glove" brands and types. My last pair was from Iron Clad which were quite nice, yet fell apart rather quickly. These do seem to have better stitching and materials, so hopefully they will outlast the Iron Clads. While very good, they aren't perfect. With the gloves on, the velcro can be difficult to undo while trying to take them off quickly. The palm side is also somewhat slippery as well. Though better than many gloves, it doesn't compete with the grip the Iron Clads offered. Over all, I'm satisfied with these. Time will tell if they hold up. Since these are less expensive than the Iron Clad's, I can be more forgiving on that time table.

Great glove for what it’s intended for.
Ive owned a pair if these for about 2 years and I have used them as my primary welding gloves. They’ve been my favorite welding gloves ever. I came here to buy new ones and saw the bad reviews and thought I’d offer an alternate opinion because Ive loved these. Sure they are not leather welding mits, but the gains these offer in terms of dexterity are well worth the slightly less protection compared to leather weld mitts. These are meant for protection against radiant heat and arc flash - like the SFI cert says - expecting a glove designed to protect agsinst radient heat to protect against abbrasion like the other reviewers is silly. Buy the correct glove for your use case. These have real leather palms and the carbon x fabric has stood up well to the welding abuse ive put them through. Pic is after 2 years of welding use, using the left hand as the weld gun support so it gets blasted with heat and red ants.

fit sizing is 1 size larger... sucks for regular mechnix small users... like me...
man, i am normally a good small size. had many mechanix gloves. this fit is like a size larger then normal. too bad they dont' have xs.i am considering returning it. i like the idea of fire resistant? not needed for me. and fit really makes me unhappy.velcro is larger then normal and has good holding power. love that part. impact protection is as good as impact series (like punching a wall motion) but less restrictive then the rubber topped style.i like the name tag label area also.man, the only problem is fit. crazy dilema.i attached 2 pictures. 1 of the nice big velcro patch. and second is a pen pointing to where my fingers end. not normal on all of my other small mechanix gloves.

Much better than the military issue nomex gloves
I am an ag pilot, and I've always worn nomex gloves while flying. Problem is, I generally wear out a couple of pair in a season of hard flying. I've never liked the fact that the palm of the glove only has leather, and no nomex underneath between the leather and the skin of my hands. So, I started looking for an alternative this year. I wanted something with very good resistance to heat and flame, but also something with a short cuff, unlike the gauntlet style of the military gloves. I ran across the Mechanix Wear CarbonX gloves and they appeared to have everything I was looking for. So far, they have not dissapointed. They are comfortable, even on hot days. The fit is superb, and the glove appears to be very well made. It remains to be seen how they hold up through the entire flying season, but so far, I am very satisfied!

Me decepcionaron

Good palm back of the hand is very thin
The back of the glove is very thin and even though it has a sfi rating not sure how much protection it will provide. Will get the 5 next time.
